This useful mechanic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet allows you to set up a picnic and make sandwiches, wash your Pokemon, and play games. Of course, you can’t just start a picnic anywhere in the world. So, how can you set up your own picnic and take full advantage of it? Let’s dive a little deeper to find out.

How to set up a picnic in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

To be able to start a picnic, you will need to ensure that you are not in the Town, any narrow place, steep slopes, or Legendary rides. If you are not in any of these places, then as soon as you open up your Menu and select Picnic, you’ll be able to start one.

Once you do so, the table will automatically be set up, and all your party Pokémon will be released. These Pokémon will wander around the picnic table, mostly playing with the ball or sleeping. Furthermore, it is essential to note that this feature is unlocked only after the Treasure Hunt starts, and you can go outside Mesagoza.

What can you do during a picnic?

While on a picnic, you can increase the level of Friendship you have developed with each of your Pokémon. For Pokémon that evolve due to high Friendships, such as Riolu and Eevee, it becomes necessary to have a high level of Friendship if you’re aiming for your favourite evolutions. That said, you can do a number of things to bond with your Pokémon while you’re on a picnic:

Wash your Pokémon

Cleanliness is important, even for Pokemon. Captured by VideoGamer

Picnics allow you to clean and bathe your Pokémon. Scrub them gently and make them feel comfortable. This will increase the Friendship level that the Pokemon has with you and restore that Pokémon’s depleted HP after a battle. Bathing your Pokémon becomes crucial if you’re looking to spam it in fights since you don’t want to enter a battle with an already weakened Pokémon.

Make Sandwiches

Lastly, you can capture everything you do alongside your Pokémon and friends during the picnic to save as memories for later. A bunch of filters are also available that give your photos a different look altogether. You can take group selfies and cherish those later!

Setting up a picnic in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is one of the most useful things for players as it allows them to get various bonuses and build good relations with their Pokémon. However, you will have to keep in mind that the picnics are only available in open spaces once you have started exploring outside of the town.
