If you’re curious about the One Piece TCG ban list, we’ve covered all of the banned cards as of 2024.

The One Piece Trading Card Game was released in 2022 and has quietly been making waves within table top gaming since. With nearly 13 great starter decks, and over 900 cards to choose from, there’s had to be some compromises with underbalanced cards for the competitive scene.

Generally, Bandai release the updated ban list in Q4 at the end of the year, which tells us which cards are going to be banned for the following year. Here’s the updated ban list for the One Piece TCG.

One Piece TCG ban list (Updated as of 2024)

As of March 2024, three cards were banned after the Bandai Card Games World Tour Final in Japan. These cards; Great Eruption, Reject, and Sakazuki were banned, with emphasis on the latter. Considering the four top decks in the tournament were all Sakazuki decks, there was clearly a need to balance the game slightly. These bans are not instated until April 1st, so there’s still time to play the deck until then.

Why was Sakazuki banned in One Piece TCG?

One of the major talking points with March’s banlist is the restrictions placed on Sakazuki. Considering that the top four decks in the Bandai Card Games World Tour Final were all Sakazuki decks, there’s a clear power imbalance with the card. While this ban has applied initially to Asia, it will hit Western competitions in due course too.

Realistically, one of the only ways to balance Sakazuki would be to ban Leaders altogether, so a card ban is the only feasibly balancing act.

Already, though, players are considering replacement pseudo-Sakazukis: Trafalgar Law, as one of them. The difference in consistency, though, would make this a pretty half-hearted alternative.

An actual replacement Sakazuki card is already being distributed:

The new card is an actual replacement for the previously banned Sakazuki card, and is going to be far less potent thanks to the difference in abilities.

That’s as much as we have on the One Piece TCG ban list for 2024. As the year continues, expect more and more cards to see bans, and expect some to be removed from the list too. It’s unlikely we’ll ever see that Sakazuki card removed from the banlist, unless some seriously beefy Leaders are released.
