While you’ll be leaning heavily on your gun and armour choices to get ahead in Once Human, the best Deviants can make life a whole lot easier. That’s not just combat either, as a good portion of the available Deviants are designed to make running your base, crafting resources, farming crops and resources, and much more a whole lot easier.
With near enough 50 to choose from, it can be tricky settling on the right ones. We’ll walk you through the best Deviants we’ve come across so far. For more early game hints, check out our selection of tips and tricks to guide you through the starting hours in Once Human’s supernatural open world.
Best combat Deviants
Deviant | How to get | Likes | Availability |
---|---|---|---|
Butterfly’s Emissary | Gained automatically during The Eve of Evolution tutorial quest | Green light and flowers | PvP and PvE |
Lonewolf’s Whisper | Shadow Hound boss in the Monolith of Thirst | Red light, low temperature, electricity | PvP and PvE |
Other than being the first Deviant you’ll automatically get as you progress through the tutorial, the Butterfly’s Emissary is good enough to side you in combat into the mid and later stages of Once Human. It’s two attacks offer options whether you’re fighting off a boss with Designated Attack or a horde of enemies using Auto Attack. The 25% extra damage to an enemy’s weakspot does wonders against tougher enemies.
The Lonewolf’s Whisper is in many ways a souped up version of the Butterfly. It even has the same attacks, except that the damage output is much higher. It even aggros enemies to give you breathing room and boosts single target weapon damage by over 20%. It’s a fantastic upgrade for the late game once you’ve pushed past level 35 and are roaming the Iron River, Chalk Peak, and Red Sands.
Best territory Deviants
Deviant | How to get | Likes | Availability |
---|---|---|---|
The Digby Boy | Silver and tin ore mining drop or or complete the Deviation Expert side quest in Deadsville | Music, toy, high temperature, electricity | PvP and PvE |
Buzzy Bee | Found in farm settlements like Citrus County and Sutherland Vineyard | Music, flowers, crops | PvE |
H37 | Securement Silo Alph | Music, toy, electricity | PvP and PvE |
Logging Beaver | Near rivers and docks, notably the one just south of Meyer’s Market in the Broken Delta | Music, high temperature, electricity, crops | PvP and PvE |
Flame Essence | Hearst Industries, Sutherland Chemical Plant, Greywater Industrial Zone | Red light, toy, electricity | PvP and PvE |
The Digby Boy will farm any and all ore nodes that spawn around your territory, effectively giving you a steady supply of ores for crafting – copper, tin, sulfur, gravel, aluminum, and tungsten, depending on where your base is set up. The Deviant works fast as well so whenever you return from a sortie you’ll be ready to fire up the Furnace.
Tending to crops is tedious at the best of times, especially with unreliable rain, so the Buzzy Bee is a no-brainer for a steady flow of quality ingredients for crafting food and drinks. The Deviant heightens the chance of getting mutated crops and increases plant yield.
H37 will roam settlements in search of crates and chests, hauling back their contents for you. It’s a great way to passively farm useful materials and scrap, which you can put towards crafting and base expansion.
The Logging Beaver is effectively the same as The Digby Boy, except for wood. It will go out and chop down any trees in your territory and ferry the logs back to its Isolated Securement unit for you to use. You’ll never be short on wood for making Charcoal, cooking, or base building.
Flame Essence greatly enhances the efficiency of your Furnaces, speeding up the production of charcoal, ingots, glass, and more. It synergises particularly well with The Digby Boy, turning all that farmed ore into useful materials much faster and in higher yields.
Best crafting Deviants
Deviant | How to get | Likes | Availability |
---|---|---|---|
Dreamcatcher | Arachsiam boss in the Mirage Monolith | Blue light, music, flowers | PvP and PvE |
Harveseed | Treant boss in the Gaia Cliff Monolith | Crops, flowers, high temperature | PvP and PvE |
Strange Door | Riddle Spots | Blue light, red light, flowers | PvP and PvE |
Masonic Pyramid | Stronghold Conquest | Blue light, music, high temperature, electricity | PvP |
Crafting Deviations are extremely situational and the best ones depend on what items you’ll use most. For example, Harveseed is a top choice if you use a lot of Living Armor, while Dreamcatcher will let you produce vast mounts of Weaver Whim Elixir. Take your pick and mix and match as required. As a general rule, you’re better off using the Deviant space cap on Territory variants to get materials and resources.
