If you play Marvel Rivals for an hour or two, there’s a good chance you will run into bots. These AI-generated players act quite realistically. They play well, but they can also make mistakes. Furthermore, unlike in regular matches against AI, Quick Play bots have usernames, which makes it harder to tell them apart.

In this guide, we will list a couple of different methods you can use to identify bots in Marvel Rivals. Watch out, though, as bots could also replicate your friends!

Bots are AI-generated opponents that you will play against after you lose a game or two in Quick Play. They are not present in Competitive modes, so unfortunately, you won’t get easy ranks because of them. You will usually be put in a bot lobby after losing two or three straight games. However, you may also get these lobbies after a single loss.

Bots have low levels

The first sign that you are in a bot lobby is a low level of your Marvel Rivals opponents. Once you are loading in a quick match, you can press the Tab button to show the names of players on your and the enemy team. If all of your opponents are level 5 or lower, there’s a good chance they are bots.

Most of the bots follow naming pattern

While not all, most bots follow a certain naming pattern. Their names mostly consist of two different words and each of those words is capitalized. You can see the pattern in the screenshot below, as the bots are named LidiFrau, BirdiSea, and TyleWall.

If you see these names on the loading screen and they are all low levels, you will almost be certainly playing against bots.

You will also get bots on your team

Marvel Rivals will help you out by placing two bots on your team as well. These bots will always fill the remaining roles and will be the last to pick a character. Bots always try to go for the 2-2-2 formation (two heroes of each class), so if you have two healers and damage dealers, bots will pre-select tanks and will only confirm them once the round begins.

If you notice that two players in your lobby are not confirming their characters until the last second, chances are that they are bots. They will also switch their characters during the game so that you always have a decent team composition.

Team composition and behavior

Not only will the bots try to have a 2-2-2 composition on your team, but they will also have it on theirs. Every time you play against bots in Marvel Rivals, the enemy team will have this composition. While the bots may change their heroes throughout the match, they will never change the composition.

Most of the time, bots will be grouped up and all move at the same pace. Oddly, bots tend to walk backward quite often, so if you notice this behavior, you are likely in an AI lobby.

Their profiles are blocked

Once you end the match, you can go into your match history and check the stats. If you try to open a bot profile, it will prevent you from seeing it. None of the players on the enemy team will have accessible profiles, and at least two players on your team will have blocked profiles as well.

The reasoning is simple: Bots are temporary and they have no history or match stats.

You can use the tracker website

If you are still unsure whether or not you are playing against bots in Marvel Rivals, you can simply use a website like tracker.gg. You can simply open the match you suspect had bots, and it will show you exactly whether you were matched against them or not.
