The Lies of P release date has finally dropped, and we now know when to expect Round8 Studio’s highly anticipated souls-like. Alongside promising gameplay and story details, there’s plenty of reason to be excited for this release.

Here, we’ll go over the Lies of P release date, gameplay, story details and more ahead of its launch later this year. There’s even a Lies of P demo available now, if you just can’t wait for the full game.

Release date for Lies of P

Lies of P will release on September 19, 2023. This was announced at Summer Games Fest 2023. The game will arrive on all its playable platforms on the same day.

It’s also available to pre-order which will grant 72 hours early access, and a unique outfit or two including a unique mask for the festival. There’s both a standard edition and a deluxe edition.

Lies of P platforms

Lies of P will be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. We also know we can expect to see Lies of P on Game Pass, down the line, so keep an eye out for it there if you subscribe to the service.

Lies of P trailers

We’ve seen a couple of trailers so far for the game, and both look promising.

First we’ve got the Lies of P Gameplay trailer, posted in a few places, including the official PlayStation YouTube channel.

More recently we got a new cinematic trailer at the Games Fest, which also announced the game’s release date.

With the release set for September though, there’s a strong chance we’ll see more of the game before it drops on the 19th.

Lies of P story

Narratively, it looks like the game is set to be a bit more story explicit than the From Software titles that created the genre. Lies of P is an upcoming souls-like where you play as Pinocchio; that much we’ve known since its first announcement. But with the additional trailers and insight from publisher Neowiz and developer Round8, we now have a reasonably solid picture of the premise.

You’ll awaken as Pinocchio, a living automaton in a world full of similar creatures and technology. Your only possession is a note attached to your person, telling you to find your creator, Geppetto. This is a far darker retelling of the classic fairytale though, and taking inspiration from Bloodborne, the fallen city of Krat where you’ll find yourself is sick with madness, bloodlust and death.

Lies of P release date: Four hunters pose in mismatched leather, masquerade masks, junk armour and steampunk gear. The left foreground character gestures towards a coffin held up by the background left and right characters. Inside the open casket is painted the word "Liar".

Neo-gothic architecture looms in a depraved, 19th century setting of gore. The world of Lies of P is filled with unimaginable monsters, untrustworthy figures, and plenty of untold horrors that have changed the once lively place into a Dark Souls inspired living hell, glued together only by a web of lies.

You’ll battle through mutated monstrosities, raving robots, and plenty of bosses on your way to reaching your goals. We also know that lying will be a big mechanic in this game, so it’s reasonable to speculate that it could have multiple endings depending on the choices you make.

Lies of P gameplay

Like all souls-like games, Lies of P looks to have a well refined combat system, balanced against punishing difficulty and a gameplay doctrine that encourages progress through mistakes and learning to overcome adversity.

We’ve seen from gameplay trailers that Pinocchio will be able to wield a large arsenal of different weapons, varying from swords and shovels to cannons. We also now know that the game will include a skill system that allows you to swap out weaponry and combat enhancements that integrate directly into the automaton’s body. There’s good reason to expect then that players will be able to craft different builds and adapt their playstyles throughout the game.

Lies of P release date: Pinocchio fights against a huge automaton, modeled to look like a furious king, in a theatre.

While its impossible to know all the specifics at the moment, boss fights are certain to be a big part of this game, going by the trailers. We’ve seen a significant variety in boss design too, which suggests players will be kept on their toes throughout the experience.

That’s everything we know on the Lies of P release date, the platforms its coming to, and its story and gameplay details. Exciting as it is, this was far from the only game we learnt more about at Summer Games fest.
