How to upgrade villager roles in Kunitsu-Gami Path of the Goddess

As you unlock new villager roles, you’ll gain access to various different buffs and perks that heighten each villager’s ability to fight off Steethe in tower defence stages. They include enhancements like improved attack power and heightened health, for example.

We’ll walk you through how to upgrade villager roles. You’ll also want to know how to get more Musubi, the earned currency that’s needed to unlock each tier of the upgrade tree. These upgrades are particularly useful when taking on bosses in Kunistu-Gami Path of the Goddess.

Where to upgrade villager roles

To upgrade villager roles, head to Yoshiro’s tent in a stage you’ve already completed, for example the starting Myoko Pass stage. The tent is typically easy to find in each stage. It’s made up of white and red fabric. You’ll also spot Yoshiro sitting inside.

Interact with the low table then select the Musubi Upgrade option, represented by a gift wrapped in red and pink fabric with a stylised wave pattern. On the next screen, you’ll see all the villager Masks you’ve unlocked so far, each one denoting a specific villager role.

Select the role you want to upgrade to bring up the role upgrades menu. On the left, you’ll see a column of diamonds, each denoting a specific upgrade, with a short blurb underneath detailing what the upgrade does. For example, in the image below, we’ve selected the Ascetic Mask and the Health Increase 1 upgrade, which slightly increases maximum health. You’ll also see how much Musubi the upgrade costs, marked under Required.

To upgrade, make sure you have enough Musubi, then tap the upgrade button (A on Xbox, Square on PlayStation, and F on PC). Tap the Yes to confirm the upgrade and trigger a short cutscene. If at any point you’re unhappy with your choice, you can jump back to the same upgrades menu and undo by tapping the corresponding button (Y on Xbox, C on PC, and Triangle on PlayStation), recouping your Musubi in the process.
