During the grand feast before marching on Nebakov Fortress, Henry will meet many characters both old and new. This is all a part of the For Victory! main questline in the Trosky region of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. One of those attending and joining you is Chamberlain Ulrich. During the coming march, he seems to meet an unfortunate end, but many players want to look for a chance to save him. But can it be done? Let’s find it.

Can you save Chamberlain Ulrich in KCD2?

The short answer is no, there is no way to save Ulrich. The character’s death seems to be scripted, no matter how well you do during the fight. Players have reported pre-shooting Ulrich’s perceived killers, yet there’s always a sniper shot that eventually kills him.

✓ The game hints at the outcome

The game offers a veiled hint that Ulrich won’t be available after a certain point. Notably, the game will inform you that Ulrich’s side quest will not be available at the castle once you start the mission. The Demons of Trosky quest automatically fails beyond a certain point, meaning that Ulrich’s death is a pre-scripted event.

What leads to Ulrich’s death?

Once you set off with Otto von Berfow’s men, Henry and Hans will find themselves riding along with a small army. After a series of cutscenes where you’re galloping through the forest, things take a sudden turn when the army is ambushed by bandits. As chaos breaks out, Hans rushes over to help you get out from under your horse and urges you to keep moving with him.

There’s no shortage of bandits here, and since they’re distracted by the soldiers, it’s the perfect time for you to practice your combat skills with whatever weapon you’ve chosen. It’s up to you to take on any bandits in your path and keep pushing forward until you reach Chamberlain Ulrich.

When you finally get to him, you’ll find him trapped under his horse, pinned down by two bandits who are firing at him from the rocks above. There are two more bandit bowmen that spawn out of eyesight. This is where your bow comes in handy. Take out those bandits while Hans tries to help free the Chamberlain. Just as he’s about to get Ulrich free, the Chamberlain is sniped and dies in the process. Unfortunately, there’s no way to save him, even if you take out all the surrounding bowmen beforehand.

Without revealing the rest, this leads to a wider skirmish that culminates with a duel with Zizka, the bandit captain. From there, Henry and Hans’ adventure continues from the viewpoint of Father Godwin and the start of the next chapter, dubbed Divine Messenger.
