- The base game of Elden Ring and the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC do not support crossplay.
Being available on so many platforms was bound to raise the question of crossplay and cross-platform for Elden Ring. The latest fantasy epic by FromSoft has captured hearts worldwide, and the expectation is the planned Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will do so again. With difficult levels and challenging bosses – as a normal trend by FromSoftware – many would seek aid. The multiplayer aspect, like co-op, allows them to summon help and clear the challenge.
Does Elden Ring support crossplay?
Elden Ring does not support crossplay with other consoles. Those on PS5 can’t play with people on Xbox consoles. You can, however, play between PS4 and PS5, and between Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Arguably, Elden Ring should support crossplay, but you can see that so many restrictions were added to the game’s multiplayer that it makes sense that FromSoft wouldn’t let this happen as a gameplay consideration more than anything else.
Will Shadow of the Erdtree support crossplay?
Considering the base game does not feature crossplay, it is extremely unlikely crossplay would be added only for the DLC. With the release date so close, and no word from FromSoft about the addition, it’s a fairly safe bet to expect crossplay won’t be added to the game.
Why we think crossplay is unlikely
People always want more connections between different consoles, because sometimes you and your friends are split between multiple. Someone might prefer the PC to play Elden Ring because they want mods, meanwhile, other people can be very loyal to their favourite consoles. On paper, it sounds like a no-brainer to allow crossplay in Elden Ring, but there are some considerations to take into account. Namely, PvP and and cheaters.
More likely than not, the lack of crossplay could be entirely down to how easy it is to mod your game or cheat on the PC version. Due to this, those on consoles would likely run into more cheaters if cross-platform play was enabled, equally, you would have no control over who you summon to your world to help fight a boss, and a cheater could entirely ruin that experience for you.
You can enjoy the adventure with your friends or strangers on another system, but you will never get full support between different consoles and PCs; if you are playing on PS5, you won’t be able to play with those on Xbox or PC. Furthermore, those of you who play on PS4 can play with your friends on PS5, and the same goes for playing between Xbox One and Xbox Series X versions of Elden Ring. Now you know who you can team up with, it’s time to gather your friends and take on the horrors waiting for you in the Lands Between.
