Romance plays a huge part in any game of the life sim genre, and inZOI is the latest example of that. While you can keep your Zoi a bachelor or bachelorette for as long as you want, most players like a spark of love in their simulations. From innocent flirting to dating, even to marriage and bringing kids into the world, romance in inZOI is a game in itself. There are many steps filled with successes and pitfalls. Our guide will help you navigate them all and achieve your romantic dreams in inZOI.
How does romance work in inZOI?
Romance in inZOI can be split into several stages, many of which can overlap as you transition between them. The first spark, of course, happens when you meet another Zoi, although you can also romance eligible Zois in your house – such as any roommate setups you create when starting the game. In broad strokes, relationships can be summed up in these steps:
- Initial romantic spark
- Dating
- Marriage
- Having a baby
- Parenthood
Of course, there’s always the looming spectre of break up or divorce hanging over each of these steps. So you have to be on your game to keep a relationship going, lest it cools off.
How to start dating?
To start dating another Zoi, you first have to meet them and establish a friendly relationship. Show interest in their favourite topics by inspecting their profile card and choosing subjects that they enjoy. Soon you’ll have the option to pick dialogue from the Romance category, found after clicking More.
Pay attention to the Romance meter – found in the relationships tab, along with Friendship and Work. Your goal is to slowly grow it until it reaches Mutual Crush, and later Sweethearts. While you’re dating someone in inZOI, you can still flirt and even date other Zois. At the game’s current stage of development, the partners don’t seem to mind. So you can play the field and pick and choose who to settle with. This, however, changes once you get married.
How to get married?
If the relationship is successful and you’re ready for the next step, then it’s time to propose your chosen partner. First, make sure that you’ve reached the Sweethearts status on your Romance meter. That’s the minimum you need for the option to get married. If you’re there, then all you have to do is to select the dialogue option Plan Wedding Together. If accepted, you can get married on the spot or plan a big wedding ceremony with your friends and family invited. It’s up to you! You can read all about this in our dedicated wedding guide.
How to have a baby?
If everything goes right, you’ll be happily married to a Zoi of your dreams. It might be time for your small household to expand and welcome a new member. In other words, you can start making plans to have a baby. You should start by discussing having a baby with your partner, by choosing the dialogue option in the Romance category.
If they agree, your Zois will retire to the bedroom for some alone time. You won’t see much, unless you’re using some peculiar mods. Without mods, you’ll just see a big heart over the bed. Can you break up or get a divorce?
If things aren’t working out, then your best course of action is to break it off and look for other opportunities. Sadly, that’s the case sometimes in inZOI as well as in the real world. If you’re not married, then breaking up is done by simply letting the relationship cool off. You can speed up the process by insulting or annoying your partner. After a while, the Romance meter will deplete and you won’t be considered as dating anymore.
Getting a divorce is slightly more involved, however. While you’ll also likely lower your Romance meter, you have the option to ask for a divorce outright.
