While not as popular as The Sims, Krafton’s inZOI immediately released to a handful of awesome mods that expand the game. While the game’s official mod tools are still unreleased—although, they are set to launch as part of a future roadmap update—players have already tinkered with the game to add their own ideas.

Nevertheless, the vast majority of players are still waiting for the inevitable release of WhickedWhims, or an alternative mod, that allows players to engage in more adult behaviours within the life simulator. In an interview with VideoGamer, inZOI director Hyungjun “Kjun” Kim explained that the team isn’t in the business of determining what players can and can’t do with their game. Instead, the team wants the community to thrive, no matter what they’re creating.

InZOI devs respect modders

Speaking to VideoGamer, Kim explained that the team has a great deal of “respect” for modders. For a game like inZOI, part of the developer’s jobs is to provide the benchmark for what modders can then build upon. After all, no matter what they create, a modder will have their own take on it.

“We respect the freedom of modders,” Kim told VideoGamer. “I believe that creative freedom is one of the fundamental characteristics of this genre. A big part of the fun in life simulation games is when players take developer-made content and expand on it through their own creative expression. I myself enjoy doing that in other games as well.”

Kim explained that the team is looking forward to seeing what modders eventually are able to do with inZOI once its mod-kit is ready. After the release of the official mod kit, the team is also looking to keep supporting modders well into the future.

“Currently, we’re preparing an official mod support system for inZOI, which I’m also personally looking forward to,” Kim said. We see modding as another creative outlet and a way to make the genre even better. That’s why we’re committed to actively supporting modders so they can mod inZOI with as much fun and freedom as they like.”
