  • You can call for a Surrender vote in Valorant after round 4 by typing /surrender in chat.
  • In Competitive, the vote needs to be unanimous, while in Unranked, only 4 out of 5 players need to press Yes.

Although many people believe in the power of going down swinging, sometimes waving the white flag in Valorant can improve party morale and allow you to reset from a horrendous game. As such, a Surrender function was introduced all the way back in patch 1.02. This allows players to end a match prematurely if the decision is unanimous.

How to call for a surrender vote

You can initiate a Surrender vote by typing “/ff”, “/concede”, or “/surrender” (without quotation marks) in the game’s chat box. If you called the vote in the middle of the round, you can start voting at the start of the next round. However, the voting session can begin immediately if you call the vote during the Buy phase. Alternatively, you can call for a Surrender vote from the team tab by pressing the Surrender button.

The Surrender voting is displayed through a bar on the bottom left corner of the screen, which will show you how many players have voted to surrender. You can cast your vote by pressing F5 (Yes) or F6 (No). Moreover, if you’re the one who called the Surrender vote, the game will automatically cast your vote in the affirmative.

The number of votes required to end the Valorant game will depend on which mode you are playing. A Competitive game will require all the players to unanimously vote Yes for the game to end, whereas an Unrated game will end with an 80% vote approval (4 out of 5 players voting Yes). It is important to note that if a player does not vote, their vote will automatically be considered a negative.

Limitations on surrender vote

You should keep in mind that a Surrender vote can only be called after the 4th round in both Unrated and Competitive formats. Also, you’re only allowed to call a Surrender vote once per half, meaning once on defence and once on the attack. So make sure the entire team is on the same page before you initiate the Surrender vote, so you don’t end up wasting the opportunity.

Should You Surrender?

The issue with calling a Surrender vote is that the game will register you as losing all the subsequent rounds. For example, if your current score is 3-7 and you call a Surrender vote, the game will register it as a 3-13 defeat for your team.

Losing by such a large margin will cause you to lose more RR if you were playing Competitive. Whilst, if you decided on playing a little longer, you may have pulled through a couple of rounds or even made a comeback (you haven’t lost until the last bullet fires).

Therefore, only call for a surrender vote if the situation looks like a waste of time and there’s no hope of trying any further. For example, if the opposing team has a blatant cheater that you can’t do anything about.
