If you’re in the early stage of the game, crafting an anvil may be a pain. You will need 31 iron ingots in total. Let’s see how!
#1 Obtain 31 Iron Ingots
The easiest way to obtain iron ingots is to go mining, both above and underground since iron ores can spawn high up on mountains, in caves, as well as deep underground with a deepslate variant. When you mine them with a non-Silk Touch pickaxe, you will get raw irons instead of the ores. Which can be put in the furnace to smelt for iron ingots.
Iron ingots are quite common, you can find them in most chests spawn in generated structures with one iron ingot at least and up to 9 ingots per chest. Mobs like zombies and husks have a low chance to drop only 1 iron ingot on death, while the iron golems always drop 3-5 on death.
Additionally, you can craft 1 iron ingot with 9 iron nuggets or 9 iron ingots with a block of iron.
#2 Craft 3 Block of Iron
You can craft 1 block of iron with 9 iron ingots and a crafting table following the recipe below. From 31 iron ingots in step 1, use 27 ingots to craft 3 iron blocks.
Block of Iron can also be found in chests spawned in the bastion remnants, but it’s too dangerous compared to mining in the overworld dimension.
#3 Make an Anvil
When you have 3 blocks of iron and 4 iron ingots, use a crafting table and follow the crafting recipe below to craft an anvil.
