Mushroom is one of the items in the fungi block in Minecraft that can be used for decoration, crafting, farming, and other minor purposes. In the past version of Minecraft, growing mushroom is hard because you have to know the water bucket trick. Nowadays, let’s see how to grow mushrooms in Minecraft!

3 Steps to Grow Mushrooms in Minecraft

#1 Find the Mushrooms

The most efficient way to find mushrooms in Minecraft is to look for the mushroom fields and dark forest biomes. In Bedrock Edition, mushrooms can spawn in the swamp biome. When you find the giant mushroom (either it’s red or brown), use your axe or hoe and start breaking it down. Each mushroom block can drop up to 2 mushrooms of the same type.

Besides finding huge mushrooms, you can find normal mushroom spawn under caves in all biomes, where it’s dark. For special biomes such as swamps, mushroom fields, old-growth taigas, and the Nether biomes, mushrooms can spawn anywhere!

You can use shears on any mooshrooms to get 5 mushrooms, the type of mushroom you receive depends on the type of cow you sheared. Additionally, wandering traders have a small chance to sell mushrooms for 1 emerald.

#2 Find the Soil for Mushrooms

Mushrooms can only grow in certain types of blocks such as mycelium, podzol, nylium, grass block, dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, and moss block. You can still plant mushrooms on other blocks, but they won’t grow!

While there are many blocks to plant your mushrooms on, it’s recommended to use mycelium, podzol, or nylium even though they’re hard to get. Because you can plant mushrooms on them at any light level. Whereas other blocks like grass or dirt require a light level below 13 in order to plant the mushrooms properly.

Mycelium is a variation of grass block, with the grass turning into purple spores on top. It can be found only in the mushroom fields biome.

Podzol is also another variation of the grass block! They have a vibrant brown color and can be found mostly in the taiga and bamboo jungle biomes. You can also find coarse dirt in the old growth taiga biome or craft it using 2 dirt and 2 gravel.

For nylium, you need to go to the Nether dimension and find the crimson forest or warped forest biome. Then harvest either the crimson nylium or warped nylium as you go.

Grass and dirt are super basic blocks in Minecraft. You can find them lying underground everywhere so if you already have an underground base, just pick some dirt blocks and go to step 3.

#3 Plant Mushrooms

When you have mushrooms and the correct blocks, simply place the block on the ground and plant the mushrooms on it with a right-click button. Now you just need to wait or use a bone meal on it to speed up the growth process.

Remember that you will need at least a 7x7x9 space above the mushrooms. Otherwise, they won’t grow!
