Many of the Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet have less than linear paths toward evolution. With Pokemon such as Bisharp, Primeape, and Gimmighoul, you might find them not evolving no matter how much you level them up. Skrelp may seem like one of these special condition Pokémon at first, but luckily, its evolution path is a lot more linear.
In this guide, we will tell you everything you need to know in order to capture Skrelp and evolve it into Dragalge in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Catching Skrelp In Scarlet/Violet
In capturing this cute Poison/Water-type, Pokémon Violet players are unfortunately out of luck because Skrelp is exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet. This doesn’t mean they can’t acquire Skrelp, just that they can’t encounter them in their own game’s overworld. If you’re playing Pokémon Violet, you’ll either need to trade with someone who has Pokémon Scarlet or play co-op with them to catch Skrelp.
Pokémon Scarlet players looking to catch a Skrelp in the wild can find it in all areas of the Paldean Sea. However, they will have the best chance of finding Skrelp in any ocean in the northwest part of Paldea. The time of day doesn’t matter, as you can find Skrelp swimming around during both the day and night.
Evolving Skrelp Into Dragalge In Scarlet/Violet
Evolving Skrelp is a straightforward but frustrating process. Although evolving Skrelp is simply a matter of leveling it up, with no requirements based on items or characteristics of the Pokémon itself, the level you need to bring it up to is quite high.
You can evolve your Skrelp into a Dragalge by bringing it up to level 48. After this, your Skrelp will evolve automatically into its second and final form. This evolution will also change its typing from Poison/Water to Poison/Dragon.
This is quite a feat, especially considering how out of place your tiny Skrelp might look when put against the rest of your level 40 team. Still, it’s an investment worth putting in for anyone looking seriously to add some Dragon-type firepower to their team in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Final Thoughts
In Pokémon Scarlet, your best chances of encountering a Skrelp are in the northwestern section of the Paldean Sea. Skrelp can be evolved into Dragalge by leveling it up to level 48, at which point it will change its typing to Poison/Dragon, and its power will increase immensely. Pokémon Violet players, on the other hand, can trade or co-op with Pokémon Scarlet players to get their Skrelp.
