Enchant is an important feature in Minecraft that allows you to make tools, weapons, and armor better. Want to make your tools last longer? Or simply increase the damage? Let’s see how to enchant in Minecraft!

5 Steps to Enchant in Minecraft

To give you an idea of how complex enchanting in Minecraft is, we will brief you on the steps and materials required to set up the enchanting area.

  • You will need at least 2 diamonds
  • You should have a decent amount of leather and sugar canes to make books
  • You will need another 3 diamonds to craft a diamond pickaxe, which can be used to mine 4 obsidian later

Let’s dive deep into each step!

#1 Make an Enchanting Table

The enchanting table is the core block for enchanting in Minecraft. You can craft it using 1 book, 2 diamonds, and 4 obsidian follow the crafting recipe below.

This block is only obtainable through crafting. Unless you can access the creative inventory or use commands.

#2 Make some Bookshelves (Optional)

The effect of the enchantment completely depends on the number of bookshelves you place around the enchanting table. Even though it’s optional to craft and set up some bookshelves, we still recommend having at least 15 bookshelves. This will allow you to enchant at the maximum level in Minecraft.

The bookshelf can be crafted using 6 wooden planks and 3 books. So if you want to set up a proper enchantment area, you will need 90 planks and 45 books, or 45 leather and 135 paper.

When you have the bookshelves, place them around the enchanting table with 1 block gap between them. Moreover, you don’t want to put any solid blocks in these gaps because it will ruin the effect of the bookshelves.

#3 Find some Lapis Lazuli

In the past, you don’t need lapis lazuli to enchant in Minecraft. But things have changed! Now besides decoration purposes, lapis lazuli can be used as an enchanting material in the enchanting table.

You can use 1-3 lapis lazuli for each time you enchant. The more you use, the more powerful effect you will get from the enchantment. So let’s dig deep underground and find those shiny lapis lazuli ores!

#4 Prepare some levels

Besides the enchanting table and lapis lazuli, you will need levels to enchant in Minecraft! Depending on how many bookshelves you use, the required level cost can vary from 1 up to 30. That’s why we’d recommend a mob farm or finding dungeons to farm for XP.

Remember that you shouldn’t enchant with the low-level cost option, although it’s way cheaper, the enchantments it gives are quite garbage. Unless you just want to temporarily enchant your tools or reset the current enchantment.

#5 Enchant!

When you have all things set up, prepare your items and lapis lazuli. Then right-click on the enchanting table and put the item you want to enchant in the left slot. The right slot is used to put in lapis lazuli.

If you do it correctly, you can see 3 rows appearing in the right panel. The top one is the cheapest, but also with low enchantments. And the third row is the best option which will cost you 30 levels (assume you have all 15 bookshelves).

Simply choose any of them and let your luckiness bless you. Your levels and lapis lazuli will be consumed right after and you can pick the enchanted items to your hot bar again.

That’s how to enchant in Minecraft! We hope you can follow along and have the best enchanting area set up to progress further into the game!
