What is a Dolphin Dive in MW2?

As a general description, a Dolphin Dive sees you get from a standing position to a prone one while also moving forward and readying your gun at the same time.

Normally, crouching and getting into prone can leave you venerable for a few frames as your character goes through the animation -which can be the difference between life and death.

So Dolphin Diving can be good for quickly making yourself a smaller target to incoming fire, and getting behind cover if you suddenly find yourself in an unexpected firefight.

For the PC, it is actually quite simple to complete the dolphin dive, although it will take some tweaking. To make sure you are prepared to dolphin dive you must first:

  1. Go to the games setting menu and click on “Keyboard and Mouse
  2. Under here click on “Gameplay” in the top middle section of your screen.
  3. Slide under “Movement Behaviors” and scroll to Automactic Sprint
  4. Make sure “Automatic Sprint” is on by showing it highlighted as green.
  1. Once completed head into a matchmaking game and start sprinting by clicking “Shift”
  2. While the soldier is running, click on the prone key, also known for PC as “CTRL

Congratulations! Your character just committed their first dolphin dive. This might take some practice until you learn the ropes of the best moments to dolphin dive.

How to Dolphin Dive in MW2 Console Version

On consoles, it is almost identical to PC, with going to the same settings and making sure auto sprint is locked. Although instead of “Keyboard and Mouse”, you will go to “Controller”. Then continue to go down to Gameplay and Automatic Tactical Sprint.

For consoles, make sure when sprinting in you first match, make sure to press and hold the “change stance” key to dolphin dive. On PlayStation this would be “O” and for Xbox this will be “B”.

When to Dolphin Dive in MW2?

The Dolphin Dive technique is a great mechanic to get yourself out of tight close quarter battles when playing modes such as Domination.

It’s also a great way of capturing objectives with limiting the chances of being killed in crossfire of doing so.

Enemies are least to expect it happening too so it’s a great mechanic to get people off-guard!
