Are Illuminate part of Helldivers 2?
By all accounts, Illuminate are not part of the enemy pool in Helldivers 2. They have not returned from the first game, which came out in 2015. The sequel has tons of enemies, but it doesn’t appear that Illuminate are among them.
The Helldivers Wiki said that they are, “highly sophisticated.” They also noted that the Illumates’ civilization “has endured for several hundred thousands of years. They call themselves the Squ’ith, originally aquatic these creatures dressed in ceremonial robes have managed to create a vast and extremely complex neural network for space travel.”
The species has taken its first steps towards the stars and produced weapons of mass destruction in large scale and are “something that the people of Super Earth cannot ignore.” However, in Helldivers II, the people of Super Earth have other enemies to deal with, including bugs, cyborgs, aliens, and so much more. Instead of this enemy, sequel players primarily take on two groups of enemy factions: Terminids and Automatons. The Terminids are, unlike the Illuminate, a returning enemy from the first game. The gameplay is largely the same as well except for the new third-person perspective.
Will Helldivers 2 get Illuminate?
Right now, there is no set plan for the Illuminate to join Helldivers 2’s roster. That is not to say that they can’t or won’t ever be a part of the game, though. The game is a live-service multiplayer game, which suggests that the developers are planning for it to have a long shelf life. That demands a lot of enemies, and they might bring back the fan favorite at some point.

Helldivers 2 is proving to be a fun game that people enjoy playing. If they aim to make this a longstanding game or a lengthy franchise with more than one sequel, they will more than likely utilize the Illuminate once more.
You and your squads can take patrols through all alien planets, utilize any tactics to take over a territory, or use whichever stratagems and Helldiver troops you like for now, but there are no Illuminate to use them on. The game only released in early February on PC and PlayStation, so there’s time for that to change, but it’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not they will. For now, you’ll just have to fight Obelisks, Illusionists, Elites, Robots, and the rest of the enemies.
