If you’re trying to play with a couple of friends but haven’t got a full squad, then you might find it annoying that random players keep joining your games. That’s why you’ll want to know how to make a private lobby so you and your pals can spread democracy in peace, as well as how to leave your lobby afterwards.

How to make Helldivers 2 private

You cannot technically make an out-and-out private lobby, but you can tweak your settings a bit to essentially do just that. Once you’re in the game, open up the settings menu, and head to the ‘Gameplay’ tab. Right at the top, you’ll see the setting ‘Matchmaking Privacy’. Make sure this is set to ‘Friends Only’ instead of ‘Public’.

Trouble Connecting To Game?

If you’re having any server issues, such as being unable to connect to the game, try turning off crossplay as well, limiting players to only your platform (PC or PlayStation). Many players have reported that doing this has made their game much more stable.

Once you’ve changed this setting, only people you have added as a friend will be able to join your game. This also means if you want to play on your own, this will let you do exactly that, though be aware that the game is much harder solo.

Unfortunately, as mentioned previously this is not a true private lobby. If you want to play solo, or if you just want to play with a specific person, there’s still nothing stopping someone you have added from joining in the middle of a mission, so keep that in mind.

Once you’re done with your lobby, you may want to know how to leave a squad so you can play solo or with another group. There’s no specific command in the menus to do this, so it’s not immediately obvious if and how it’s done.

Luckily, the answer is fairly simple. Walk all the way to the back of the ship, where the cryo pods are located. Walk up to the entrance, and you’ll receive a prompt that reads ‘Return to ship alone’. Simply press this, and you’ll head back to your ship, leaving your lobby and squad.
