Where to find Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3

You will find Halsin at the Shattered Sanctum beyond the Goblin Camp in Baldur’s Gate 3. He’s down in the Worg Pens, morphed into a bear. You’ll need to find Halsin here before you can bring him on as a party member. For anyone not quite following, remember that Halsin is a Druid – a class with the ability to shapeshift in the Forgotten Realms. He’s a First Druid of Emerald Grove. Halsin transformed into a bear in an attempt to escape his Goblin captors.

How to rescue Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Here’s a step-by-step guide to head to the Worg Pens and rescue Halsin in BG3.

How to reach the Goblin Camp

Once you’re at the Emerald Grove, it’s not too difficult to get to the Baldur’s Gate 3 Goblin Camp. Just follow these simple steps and you’ll get there in no time.

  • Head to the Emerald Grove waypoint on your map.
  • Travel south along the roads until you reach the Emerald Grove Environs waypoint.
  • From this waypoint, head east for about twice the travel distance between the first two waypoints. Remember to grab all the loot you can find on the way. You’ll come to the Blighted Village.
  • Pass through the Blighted Village, following the east road. Be wary of Goblins in the village. You can either fight them, use Persuasion to convince them, or employ Baldur’s Gate 3 Illithid powers to subdue them.
  • Follow the road as it turns northward, and it’ll bring you to an old stone bridge. Head north.
  • Cross the bridge, and you’ll be at the Goblin Camp. Here, you’ll need to convince or defeat Sentinel Olak to let you through. You can also learn that Halsin is being held in The Pits.

How to reach the Worg Pens in the Shattered Sanctum

Now that you’re in the Goblin Camp, you can finish a couple of side quests here. You can speak with the Bard Volo, who is immediately taken behind bars. And here’s how to get the owlbear cub in Baldur’s Gate 3 as it’s right there in camp. The courtyard area will be lively with goblins roasting various animals and talking aloud.

This is because they’ve just destroyed the inn at Waukeen’s Rest on the Risen Road. Either fight every goblin in camp, sneak through, or pretend to be on the goblins’ side to pass to the Shattered Sanctum. Sneaking involves bypassing some sleeping goblins and destroying a cracked wall that wakes these goblins and bugbear warriors up. You can also secretly poison a barrel in this area to trigger a cutscene. Anyway, head north to see a giant ogre guarding the entry to the Shattered Sanctum. Pass some dialogue checks to get in.

Now that you’re inside, here’s how to rescue Halsin from the Worg Pens in the Shattered Sanctum in BG3:

  • Convince the guard to let you in or you’ll have to fight your way in. Illithid Wisdom or Persuasion should get you through.
  • Inside, you’ll find plenty of things to do. There’s Abdirak who can torture you to grant you Loviatar’s Love buff. It activates when you’re under 30% health and grants you +2 on attack rolls and saving throws for three turns. You can also choose to free Volo from one of the cells.
  • Liam is being tortured here too. You can choose to send his torturers off and then learn more about the Baldur’s Gate 3 Nightsong.
  • From the central area where you spot Priestess Gut, head to the right and cross the stairs. There’s a door here that takes you to the Warg Pens encounter with druid Halsin in bear form.
  • Keep your Speak with Animals skill ready if you have it. You can either persuade the goblins to leave Halsin or fight them alongside Halsin. Even if you can’t speak to the bear (who is Halsin), attacking the goblins should be enough to get him on your side.

How to make BG3 Halsin a companion

If you want Halsin as a companion, then you’ll need to free him by siding against the Goblins. If you’re able to pass enough Intimidation checks, you can force the Goblins outside Halsin’s cage to release him. Alternatively, you can initiate combat, and cut your way through the Goblin forces.

This will allow Halsin to escape, after which point you’ll run into him later down the line in Emerald Grove. If you defeat the three goblin leaders Priestess Gut, Minthara, and Dror Ragzlin before meeting Halsin, he would have escaped the prison by himself. In the Druid’s Grove location, he’ll tell you about the parasite in your head. It turns out that the cultists at Moonrise Towers have tampered with the tadpole. Siding with the Druids in the conflict later on is the best way to secure Halsin’s trust and make him a party member.

Once you reach the Last Light Inn in Act 2, Halsin will try to find a child named Thaniel. Help him through the quest and build your approval rating. This lets you make him a companion in Act 3.

That covers everything you need to know about how to find Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3. There are plenty of other companions out there too.
