In this guide, we’ll walk you through The Summoning main story chapter in God of War Ragnarok. Things have come to a head – Atreus and Kratos head to Muspelheim to summon a primordial ally. As The Summoning is a later game story mission, we’re keeping spoilers and major narrative elements to a minimum, but for the purpose of guiding you through the mission, there are a few in there. You’ve been warned.
To help make the most of your visit to Muspelheim, we’ve also included all the chests, ravens, lore, and so on you can grab as you make your way through. It should save you some hassle if you want to get Muspelheim to 100% completion later on.
Reach Surtr’s Forge
Head forward from the mystic gateway, jump down the cliff, and go right to find a Legendary chest ahead.
To the right off the chest is one of Odin’s Ravens sitting on a rock in a pool of lava.
Squeeze through the gap and take on the enemies. On the left is a ledge just under a lava fall you can shimmy along.
Continue forward down the path and look right for a weak point in the rocks before jumping over the ledge ahead. Spear and detonate, then go through to find a Nornir chest.
The first rune brazier is right and up from the chest. Face the chest and turn around. The two other runes are on the right perched on cliffs a short distance away.
You’ll need to use a stacked sigil and the Blades to light the second rune. The same applies for the third, but it’s much trickier. First, sigil between the two runes and stack so that it covers both (a pink glow on the runes confirms this). Second, run to the left of the runes and chain another two stacks with one close enough to Kratos that the Blades can reach it. Loot the chest for an Idunn Apple.
Hop over the ledge and take on a Flame Phantom. Shoot it’s purple heart, until it staggers, then take out the three purple pillars scattered around the arena. Note that one is concealed behind rocks. Throw a spear at the weak point and detonate to clear the rock. Defeating the Phantom grants a Chaos Flame and Vindsvalr’s Windstorm heavy runic attack for the spear.
Go under the gap into Surtr’s Forge.
Create a zip line with the rope ahead and head down.
Approach the Ashen Man
Walk up the ramp to talk to the Ashen Man. He isn’t too pleased about you showing up and pits you against two Soul Eaters ancients and smaller mobs. To take down the Soul Eaters, shoot at their exposed chest when they gear up for attacks. Defeat them, grab the Boon of Fury amulet enchantment, then head back up to the man, who turns out is none other than Surtr.
Follow Surtr
Look up and take out one of Odin’s Ravens perched on the ruins above, then follow Surtr to the Spark of the World.
Jump across the platforms and reunite with Surtr. Next comes a three phase battle with Valkyries Hrist and Mist.
Approach the Spark of the World
Walk up the ramp and watch the cut scene to complete the quest.
