A fresh and unexpected addition to the God of War arsenal, the spear adds a whole new dimension to mowing through beasts, trolls, and draugr. Kratos’ fighting style evolves with this third weapon thanks a host of new light and heavy attacks, runic attacks, and attachments.
As with the Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos, there are 12 handles and hinds to pick up across the Nine Realms, with each one offering stat boosts. This choice can make deciding which one to equip to keep Kratos in fighting shape and where to invest valuable upgrade resources a bit tricky.
Best Draupnir Spear Attachments in God of War Ragnarok
Hind of Attuned Elements
- Location – reward for completing the Yggdrasil Rif during the Forging Destiny main path quest in Savartalfheim
- Starting stats – Defense 16, Runic 17 at level 5
Though sticking with a single weapon is a viable strategy in God of War, Kratos’ true potential is unlocked when cycling between all three. The Hind of Attuned Elements supplements this by granting bonus damage when dishing out spear attacks to enemies affected by Burn or Frost, courtesy of the Extinguish and Vaporize skill. In action, this means freezing an enemy with the axe or burning them with the Blades, then switching to the spear to unleash a burst of DPS. Rinse and repeat to plow through most enemies.
The Hind of Attuned Elements also boosts defense and runic stats, up to 29 and 34 respectively when upgraded to level 9 at any shop across the Nine Realms, further stressing the utility of status effect runic attacks and chaining combos using all three weapons.
Hind of Deadly Vitality
- Location – reward for defeating Egil the Oath Guard in The Crater, Vanaheim
- Starting stats – Defense 22, Luck 17, Cooldown 17 at level 7
Though health stones often pop up during fierce encounters, successfully stomping them while fending off enemy attacks isn’t always the most straightforward task. In comes the Hind of Deadly Vitality spear handle, which through its Slayer’s Health Burst attribute has a moderate luck chance of a health burst whenever you kill an enemy with the spear.
It’s elegant in it’s simplicity, promoting an aggressive playstyle by rewarding your with precious health, which in turn keeps you in the fight. At low health, no longer are you forced to back away, but instead incentivized to go in for the kill, knowing there’s more health on the way. The Hind of Deadly Vitality also comes with a boost to defense, cooldown, and luck.

Hind of Weightless Recovery
- Location – Crafted at Brok and Sindri’s Shop after completing the Creatures of Prophecy main path quest
- Starting stats – Defense 18, Luck 22 at level 6
If you’re not already making the most of the spear’s Maelstrom ability – it powers up the spear when you chain melee attacks leading to a damage, runic, and luck boost when activated – then you should. And, if you already are, then the Hind of Weightless Recovery will be music to your ears.
The Hind of Weightless Recovery’s Maelstrom Refresh grants a moderate luck chance of a cooldown reduction for every successive spear attack when Maelstrom is fully charged. This means you can perform runic attacks more regularly and pair them with the devastation of the spear’s charged Maelstrom attacks. This spear handle also comes with a boost to Defense and Luck, which hit a level 9 peak of 29 and 34, respectively.
Hind of the Nine Realms
- Location – reward for defeating Bodvar the Fierce and Starolfr the Troublesome in Alfheim
- Starting stats – Runic 16, Vitality 16, Cooldown 16 at level 6
The Hind of the Nine Realms spear handle contains such power that it is said to slow time, or so reads the in-game description. Translated, the hind triggers a Realm Shift whenever you activate Violent Maelstrom, which you can do by pressing L1 and Triangle when Maelstrom is fully charged.
The time slowing Realm Shift gives you a longer window to make the most of the extra damage and stun afforded by the Violent Maelstrom. Rounding off the Hind of the Nine Realms is a boost to Runic, Vitality, and Cooldown stats, which all hit 26 when fully upgraded to level 9.
