As a live service game, it’s fair to say that Genshin Impact has an almost endless supply of characters planned for future content. Since the game launched in 2020, the roster of playable characters in Genshin Impact is only growing as each update comes out.
Every character in Genshin has a Vision, which dictates their elemental powers and the type of damage they inflict. As of 2023, there are seven elements in the game. It is unclear if future elements will be added, but we know new characters are always being worked on.

Genshin Impact – how many characters are playable?
At the time of writing, Genshin Impact has 75 characters. As of patch 4.2, Furina and Charlotte have just been added to the playable roster, featuring on the Genshin Impact 4.2 banners, and we include them in the total count of playable characters.
As mentioned, Genshin Impact releases new characters all the time and they are usually tied to the following update. For patch 4.3, we might expect to see Navia make her debut, for example.

Genshin Impact – upcoming characters and speculation
The internet is full of leaks, speculation, and dreaming when it comes to upcoming playable characters in Genshin Impact. HoYoverse likes to put future playable characters in the story and Archon quests before they are playable, giving you a teaser of the character.
This has been the case with a bunch of them, such as Dehya being introduced in early 3.0 and then only becoming playable months later. These are the characters we expect to see come to the game eventually.
