Many games like Fortnite have come out over the past few years, but none of them have been as successful. Considering that Epic Games’ battle royale game has more than half a billion players in total, this comes as no surprise. Fortunately, Fortnite still has a couple of fantastic alternatives you should try out.

Describing Fortnite as a battle royale game may not be entirely accurate in 2024. While this core mode is still popular, Epic has added many new game modes, from LEGO Fortnite to Rocket Racing. Due to this, our list of Fortnite alternatives will include similar multiplayer games, from battle royale to sandbox.

Apex Legends

  • Developer – Respawn Entertainment
  • Platforms – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS
  • Release date – February 4, 2019

Apex Legends is one of the most popular battle royale games at the moment. Released in 2019, the game has attracted more than 150 million players. This was the first popular battle royale game to feature a respawn system, which is a big reason why it’s become so popular.

While the main goal in Apex Legends is to be the last player standing, some aspects of this game are nothing like Fortnite. The game doesn’t have a solo mode, and before you drop into a match, you’ll need to select a legend (hero). Each legend has unique abilities that you will have to use throughout the match in order to survive, so make sure to choose the right character if you decide to give this game a shot.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0

  • Developers – Infinity Ward, Raven Software
  • Platforms – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC
  • Release date – November 16, 2022

If you’re looking for fun games like Fortnite but with realistic graphics, you should try Warzone 2.0. Call of Duty has always been one of the best shooter games, and Warzone is its battle royale mode. This is another game that features a respawn system, better known as the Gulag. However, instead of instant respawn, you will have to fight to get back into the game.

Unlike Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 looks and feels realistic. On top of that, this game features a first-person perspective, just like every other CoD game. If this sounds like your cup of tea, you can download the game for free on both last and current-generation gaming systems.

Overwatch 2

  • Developer – Blizzard Entertainment
  • Platforms – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch
  • Release date – August 10, 2023

Overwatch 2 is different from the other games like Fortnite on our list. However, it still has many similarities with Epic Games’ popular title. If you’re a fan of teamwork and cartoonish graphics, Overwatch 2 might be a fantastic Fortnite alternative for you.

Instead of a battle royale mode, Blizzard’s first-person shooter features PvP combat between two teams. Instead of eliminations, however, each map has a special goal, such as capturing an objective or escorting a payload. Overwatch 2 has a fantastic lineup of heroes grouped into three categories (Damage, Tank, and Support), and you will have to choose one of them before dropping into a fight.

Realm Royale

  • Developer – Heroic Leap Games
  • Platforms – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch
  • Release date – June 5, 2018

There are many games like Fortnite, but Realm Royale might be the most similar to it. Not only is it a battle royale game, but its graphics are nearly identical. Furthermore, Realm Royale is an easygoing game that isn’t meant to be taken seriously. Interestingly, this is the first battle royale to have a respawn system. However, it hasn’t become as popular as the previous games on this list, which is why many gamers didn’t know about it.

Unlike Fortnite, it is possible to ride mounts in Realm Royale. Furthermore, the game features a simple crafting system that allows you to craft new items at Forges.

Roblox

  • Developer – Roblox Corporation
  • Platforms – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Android, iOS, Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro
  • Release date – September 1, 2006

Including Roblox on the list of Fortnite alternatives might be an odd choice. However, these two games have many similarities. Epic Games released Creative mode in Fortnite in late 2018, allowing players to create their own custom maps and games. Due to this, we had to mention Roblox as one of the games that are like Fortnite.

Roblox is much more than just a video game. It’s also a game creation system that allows gamers to create their own games. The game is intended for all ages, and some user-created experiences even feature battle royale games!

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

  • Developer – Mediatonic
  • Platforms – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch
  • Release date – August 4, 2020

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is another game owned by Epic Games. However, this isn’t the only reason why we included it on the list of games like Fortnite. Like Epic’s most popular title, Fall Guys also has cartoonish graphics. On top of that, this is another battle royale game, although it doesn’t feature shooting or building.

Instead of beating opponents with guns and weapons, you need to get to the top by passing obstacles in Fall Guys. Each match features a series of mini-games you have to pass to end up victorious. If this sounds like something you might enjoy, you can download Fall Guys for free.

PUBG: Battlegrounds

  • Developer – PUBG Studios
  • Platforms – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Android, iOS
  • Release date – December 20, 2017

No list of games like Fortnite should omit PUBG. This title is mostly considered to be the first mainstream battle royale game. Its beta version was released in March 2017, a few months before Epic Games released Fortnite Battle Royale. When Fortnite first came out, many considered it a PUBG clone, which shows how similar they are.

However, unlike Fortnite, PUBG: Battlegrounds has no building mechanics. It’s more realistic, which is why it dominated the realistic battle royale genre before games like Warzone came out. The game also runs well on mobile devices and is perfect if you like playing games on the go.

CRSED: F.O.A.D.

  • Developer – Darkflow Studio
  • Platforms – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Android, Nintendo Switch
  • Release date – December 12, 2019

CRSED: F.O.A.D. is one of the least popular Fortnite alternatives on this list. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s not a great game. It was previously known as Cuisine Royale and was released two years after Epic Games’ battle royale game. Just like Fortnite, this game is free to play and has optional transactions.

While Fortnite has building, CRSED: F.O.A.D. has supernatural items that can be used in combat. There are also some supernatural skills, such as zombie spawning and turning into a beast. The battle royale game has both first and third-person modes, as well as a couple of different maps. Interestingly, this is one of a few battle royale games that has no parachuting on the map. Instead, players are randomly spawned over the island.

1v1.lol

  • Developer – JustPlay.LOL
  • Platforms – Web browser, iOS, Android, PC
  • Release date – May 1, 2020

1v1.lol is certainly not a video game many gamers have heard about, and the reason is its availability. All the other games like Fortnite on this list are available on consoles and PCs. However, 1v1.lol is a web browser and mobile game, and despite its technical limitations, it’s a great Fortnite alternative.

While 1v1.lol has downgraded graphics, it’s nearly identical to Fortnite. While playing this game, you can build and edit structures, and use them to gain an advantage over enemies. Lobbies are much smaller, which makes this game perfect for those who are just getting into the battle royale genre.
