Epic Games added numerous new features to Fortnite with the release of Chapter 5. Society Medallions are one of these features and they cause yellow circles to appear on the map. However, many players don’t know what these circles exactly mean.
New mechanics and features are going to take a while to get used to. However, this is not a big deal for most players. What could be a big deal, though, is a mysterious yellow circle that appears on a Fortnite map at random times.

What is a yellow circle in Fortnite?
You just decided to try out Fortnite Chapter 5, but a minute after you landed, a yellow circle appeared on the map. You didn’t take a bounty nor are you targeted. Yet, despite this, the circle appeared and kept moving all the time.
To understand a yellow circle in Fortnite, you need to know about Society Medallions. The new island has five bosses, including Peter Griffin. Once you defeat a boss, they drop a Society Medallion that you can pick up and use to your advantage. This item regenerates your shield over time, and the more Medallions you have, the faster it will regenerate. Furthermore, a medallion doesn’t require an inventory slot.
While this sounds powerful, the truth is that you’ll be marked on the map while carrying a Society Medallion. More specifically, a yellow circle will mark your location for other players to see. Due to this, you will be the most-wanted target in the match.
Our screenshot above shows the difference between a Bounty circle and a Society Medallion one. As you can see, the Bounty circle is lighter and makes the other circle look more orange with a yellow outline. It is possible for multiple circles to appear in the same Fortnite match.
Think twice before picking up Society Medallions
If you’re a passive player who prefers slower pace of the game, you should not pick up Society Medallions. While these items will make you stronger, they will also mark you for everyone to see. Due to this, you put a target on your pack, and many players will hunt you down.
Furthermore, Society Medallion circles have a special effect, which you may notice when you approach the target. Besides the main map, these yellow Fortnite circles will appear on your minimap in the top right corner as well.
The screenshot above shows multiple Society Medallion circles in a single match. With five bosses on the island, it’s possible to have five different circles. However, it’s also important to note that you can carry multiple Society Medallions to further increase Shield regeneration.
All five bosses are located in named locations, and besides Society Medallions, they also drop Mythic weapons. Furthermore, you may also open special vaults after eliminating bosses. These vaults have mod benches, gold bars, and a lot of other amazing loot.

Having multiple Medallions will make you extremely difficult to eliminate. However, the more Medallions you have, the more precise your location will be, meaning that enemies will track you down more easily. If you see a smaller yellow circle in your Fortnite match, it means that your opponent has multiple Medallions and will be tough to take down.

Can I remove the yellow circle in Fortnite?
