50. BLAISE MATUIDI

Matuidi, the frenchman who makes a living at PSG, scapes into the Top 50 with an overall player rating of 86. He’s not the tallest man to play defensive midfield, but he’s strong and excellent at providing cover for the back four.

49. MARCELO

Real Madrid’s left back isn’t the fastest in the world, but he’s an excellent dribbler with strong defensive ability. He also has great hair.

48. PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG

If you want a player with pace, Dortmund’s Aubameyang has it in abundance. An incredible pace rating of 96 and strong shooting make up for being a little too easily pushed around.

47. DIMITRI PAYET

West Ham fans must pinch themselves every time they see Payet wearing their colours. He had an amazing season in the Premier League last year, and with dribbling and passing stats at 87 he’s one of the best in the game.

46. ARJEN ROBBEN

Although the former Chelsea man is getting on a bit, he’s still one of the world’s leading attackers. While not as fast as he was in his prime, he’s still able to attack defenders and get shots in at goal.

45. JAMES RODRÍGUEZ

You’ve got to be pretty great to put on a Real Madrid jersey, and James is just that. With great shooting, passing and dribbling skills he’s the ideal attacking midfielder.

44. DAVID SILVA

Silva is nearing the twilight of his career, so his pace is suffering, but the Spanish international has incredible passing and dribbling skills, making him one of the best attacking midfielders in the world.

43. KARIM BENZEMA

Benzema seems destined to be forever overshadowed by other attackers at Real Madrid, but the frenchman is a handful on his day. He has a great turn of pace, excellent dribbling skills and deadly in front of goal.

42. ARTURO VIDAL

Vidal is perfect if you want a physical presence in the centre of the pitch. He’s strong and always willing to help break up attacks by getting stuck in. He can also pick out a pass and has a decent shot on him.

41. SERGIO BUSQUETS

Busquets isn’t a flashy player, but he does the job of a defensive midfielder very well indeed. He’s big and strong and has excellent defensive stats.

40. SAMIR HANDANOVIČ

Inter’s goalkeeper put in some great performances last season, and that is reflected in the excellent stats on show, including Handling 89.

39. MATS HUMMELS

The Bayern CB is the definition of solid. 6’3″ with a defending rating of 88, he will sure up any defensive backline. Just watch out for pacey forwards turning him as he’s not the fastest player.

38. THOMAS MÃœLLER

Müller doesn’t have the most impressive stats, but he’s an excellent all-rounder. He’s also got a great work rate whether attacking or defending, which makes him a nightmare to play against.

37. ANGEL DI MARÍA

Maria’s time in the Premier League was short lived, but he had a brilliant season at PSG last year. With superb pace and dribbling skills, he’s one of the most dangerous right wingers in the world.

36. ALEXIS SÁNCHEZ

Although Sanchez suffered from injuries last season, he impressed for Arsenal when fit. He’s fast, excellent on the ball and has a great shot on him.

35. IVAN RAKITIĆ

Rakitić possesses all the skills to be one of the world’s best central midfielders. Excellent on the ball, with superb passing ability and a cracking shot, he’d be a great addition to any team.

34. JAN OBLAK

Atletico Madrid continue to punch above their weight in La Liga, partly down to the excellent form of Oblak. With 90 Handling and 87 Positioning he’s a superb shot stopper.

33. LEONARDO BONUCCI

If you want a rock at the heart of your defence, Bonucci is that man. He’s tall and strong making him him an imposing figure for attackers to play against.

32. DAVID ALABA

At 24 Alaba is still to find his best form, but he’s already one of the best left backs in the world. He’s fast, great with the ball at his feet, can pick out a pass, and more than competent when it comes to actually defending.

31. HUGO LLORIS

For reasons unknown Hugo is the only Spurs player in the Top 50, but what a player he is. Club and country captain, there are few better leaders or keepers in world football.

30. EDEN HAZARD

Despite Chelsea’s less than impressive 2015/2016 season, Hazard still ranks as one of the top attackers in world football. His pace and ability on the ball make him a constant threat.

29. GIORGIO CHIELLINI

Chiellini is nearing the end of his career, at least playing at the highest level, but for now he’s still got what it takes. With excellent defensive and physical attributes, he’s a hugely daunting figure at the back.

28. PETR ÄŒECH

Deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea, ÄŒech made a controversial move to London rivals Arsenal, but it’s worked out great. Still playing at the highest level, he remains one of the very best keepers in FIFA 17.

27. TONI KROOS

With 88 Passing Kroos is the man to split a defence with an unstoppable ball forward. He’s not fast, but he has a mean shot on him if given the opportunity.

26. GIANLUIGI BUFFON

Buffon continues to defy his age, with superb stats in Handling, Reflexes, and Positioning. Maybe not a player for the long term in FIFA 17, but certainly top class at the moment.

25. MARCO REUS

Reus is on the cover of FIFA 17 for a reason: he’s an excellent footballer. With 90 Pace he’s a nightmare for defenders, but his passing, shooting and dribbling ability all combine to make him a real threat in front of goal.

24. ANDRES INIESTA

There are few footballers that posses the skill of Iniesta. Excellent on the ball and with a superb ability to pick out the impossible pass, he’s a world great.

23. DIEGO GODÍN

Godín is yet another CB who is getting a little long in the tooth, with his pace the biggest problem. Still, he’s smart and has superb defensive stats that rival the best in the game.

22. PHILIPP LAHM

Lahm is Mr. Consistency. He’s a leader, but also still possesses great dribbling, defending, and passing skills despite his age.

21. KEVIN DE BRUYNE

Overlooked at Chelsea, the Belgian attacking midfielder went on to become one of the best players of his generation. His passing is immense, and he can use his dribbling skills to get into excellent shooting positions.

20. PEPE

Pepe doesn’t mess around at the back. He’s a strong defender who ruffles feathers. As such he’s often not liked by rival fans, but loved by his own.

19. GONZALO HIGUAÍN

87 Shooting makes the Juventus front man absolutely deadly in front of goal. The Argentine is one of the world’s best goal scorers and would be first on the team sheet at many clubs.

18. PAUL POGBA

Powerful, great on the ball, an eye for a pass and a goal, Pogba moved back to Manchester United with a world record fee and it’s easy to see why. At just 23 years old his best days are still ahead of him.

17. ANTOINE GRIEZMANN

The frenchman had a superb European Championship over the summer and would make a big difference to any team. He’s fast, can pick out killer passes, hard to disposes and can finish thanks to an excellent 85 Shooting rating.

16. THIAGO SILVA

With a Defending rating of 90, Silva is a beast at the back. He’s a nightmare to play against, and is also strong enough to play out of trouble.

15. LUKA MODRIĆ

At one point thought to be too weak to play at the highest level, Luka has proved doubters wrong by becoming one of the very best central midfielders in the world. He’s hard to shake off the ball and an expert at finding the man.

14. SERGIO RAMOS

Ramos is strong and hard to beat at the back, yet he’s also skillful still possesses a modicum of pace. Although superb at defending he’ll often burst forward to instigate an attack.

13. THIBAUT COURTOIS

The man who ended Cech’s Chelsea career, Courtois couldn’t play second fiddle any longer. With an incredible 91 Handling rating, excellent reflexes and strong positioning, he’s a must buy if given the chance.

12. MESUT ÖZIL

Özil often doesn’t get the credit he deserves. While not scoring as much as fans might like, he is incredible at linking play, keeping attacks moving when they easily could have broken down.

11. SERGIO AGÃœERO

Agüero has it all really, apart from height. He’s only 5’8″, but he’s got pace, an amazing eye for goal and superb dribbling skills. He’s one of the top strikers in FIFA 17.

10. DAVID DE GEA

De Gea has excellent stats across the board, with a rating of 90 for Reflexes his biggest asset. He’s also still relatively young for a keeper, meaning he’ll be around for years to come.

9. ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI

Lewandowski seems able to produce a shot from nothing. He’s also excellent when running with the ball and has enough physicality about him to worry defenders.

8. JÉRÔME BOATENG

Boateng is the highest rated centre back in FIFA 17. At 6’4″, with an incredible 90 rating for Defending and 85 Physicality, he’s not someone to mess with.

7. ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIĆ

Zlatan might believe he’s the best in the world, but in FIFA 17 he has to settle for seventh place. Not that there’s much in at at this level. He’s devastating in front of goal and a real giant, giving him a real physical edge to his play.

6. GARETH BALE

The former left back has come a long way since failing to impress at the start of his spell at Tottenham. Fast forward a few years and he became one of the most exciting attackers in world football.

5. MANUEL NEUER

With three stats at 90 or above, Neuer is the highest rated keeper in FIFA 17. He’s an absolute beast in goal and would make an amazing difference to any team.

4. LUIS SUÁREZ

Suárez seems to have put controversy behind him, which is great as he’s one of the very best footballers in the world. With 87 Dribbling and 90 Shooting, few players will score you more goals.

3. NEYMAR

Skillful, fast, incredible running with the ball, Neymar’s only real weakness is his physicality. But defenders have got to catch him in order to rough him up, and that’s easier said than done.

2. LIONEL MESSI

It’s a bit of a toss up between Messi and Ronaldo, but Messi loses out this year in the official rankings. With the highest dribbling rating in FIFA 17, combined with awesome Shooting, Messi is a goal machine.

1. CRISTIANO RONALDO

He’s arrogant, but has the ability to back it up. Ronaldo is the world’s best footballer and can change games single handedly if need be. He’s fast, direct, and scores goals for fun.
