Whether it’s a run that just feels botched from the start or teammates happy to faff about rather than make meaningful progress, there will invariably come a point in an Elden Ring Nightreign match when you’ll want to pull the plug early. While the option is there – Main Menu, System, Quit Game – it comes with an ominous warning: leaving will incur a penalty.
This can invoke all kinds of worries like a hard time matchmaking, or worse, an outright ban. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the Elden Ring Nightreign leave penalty and what it means. For more advice starting out in Limveld, check out our tips and tricks.
What happens when you leave a match in Elden Ring Nightreign?
If you attempt to leave in the middle of a run, you’ll see a warning message informing you that leaving will incur a penalty. However, nothing happens if this is the first time you’re opting to leave a match. I tried this myself for this guide and was able to find matches just as easily as before with no noticeable difference. You won’t, however, receive any relics or murk for the run and you’ll lose any Remembrance quest progress.
As such, the leaving penalty exists for repeat offenders. Though we’re not sure on the exact specifics of what happens if you repeatedly leave games, it will involve a temporary limit on loading into multiplayer games. In other words, there are consequences so we don’t recommend pushing it too far for your own sake but also for the sake of the two teammates you’re abandoning.
Now if you were booted out of the session through no fault of your own by a connection or server issue, then you’ll have the option to reconnect and restore the session. Declining may result in a temporary restriction on matchmaking as a pop-up explains when you get back to the title menu. If you rejoin the game, your account won’t be tagged with a leaving infringement, giving you once again a blank slate.
