While you can make do dashing on foot across battlefields and the world map in Dynasty Warriors Origins, the game also includes horses that you can mount to drastically reduce travel time. They are also useful tools on the battlefield thanks to their ability to dash through units to cause substantial damage.
You’ll unlock your first steed after the Battle of Wan Castle in chapter 1 and by talking to the Merchant nearby. From there, there isn’t much offered by the game in terms of details about how to get new and better horses. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to get horses in Dynasty Warriors Origins.
How to get new horses in Dynasty Warriors Origins
To get better horses, you’ll need to raise the peace of a region so that the first portion of the gauge is filled up in blue. At this point, the local population will deliver a set of gifts to the nearest waymark, which include coins, pyroxene, and new horses. You’ll get a message confirming as much and you’ll spot gifts and flowers around the base of the waymark. From what we’ve seen, you can only restore enough peace to earn gifts from the start of chapter 2 onward.

If you access the world map, look at the mini-map in the bottom right of your HUD and you’ll see a small emblem wrapped by a three-part gauge. This represents the level of peace in the region you’re currently in. To restore peace to a region and raise its level, you’ll need to complete story missions but also skirmishes, which are small-scale battles that take very little time to complete. You’ll find these throughout the region, respawning regularly as you complete previous ones.
Any horse you receive as a gift will match the level of your current horse, but the basic speed stat and the combination of unique buffs will be different and are unique to each horse. For example, the starting horse, Walnut, boosts mounted charge impact damage by 50%, while the second horse you can get, Maple, increases mounted stability by 50%.
How to raise horse level in Dynasty Warriors Origins
Once you’ve found a horse you like, you can level it up just as you would a weapon by having it equipped during story battles, missions, and skirmishes. Each battle earns horse XP that contributes to raising its level, unlocking extra buffs once you hit certain milestones – level 5, 10, and 15.
