Does Starfield require internet? If this is a question that’s been on your mind recently, then we’re here to give you the answer you’re looking for. With the game’s story taking place in the sprawling setting of the Settled Systems, you may be wondering whether an internet connection will be necessary to seamlessly explore through it all.

Before we take a look at the game’s online requirement or lack thereof, you can take a look at our Starfield co-op page to give you an even better idea of the game’s multiplayer functionality. Alternatively, you can take a look at Starfield cross save availability instead so you’ll know if you can continue your adventure over different platforms. If you simply want to know whether Starfield requires internet, though, then we’ve got you covered below.

Do you need internet to play Starfield?

No, you will not need an internet connection to play Starfield if you purchased the physical edition or if you’ve already installed the digital edition. However, if you bought the game through Xbox Game Pass, then you will need to go online to access it since the app will need to verify your subscription to the platform.

Once you’ve logged in and your Game Pass has verified your membership, though, you should then be able to start the game up without issue as long as you’ve already installed it. Since Starfield doesn’t have a co-op or multiplayer component and Bethesda hasn’t given any indication of adding one in the future, an internet connection should not be a requirement both in the short- and long-term.

That’s all you need to know for now on Starfield’s internet requirement. If you want to learn more about Bethesda’s sprawling outer space saga, check out our Starfield Bare Metal guide, Starfield Rough Landings guide, and Starfield Revelation guide as well.
