Death Harnessed Theories of Rathma in Diablo 4 is a rather interesting quest item. While it isn’t particularly difficult to acquire, a bug has been plaguing players since the game’s launch. It prevents players from maxing out the quests in a region, holding them back from earning Renown.

In the world of Diablo, Rathma is among the first Nephalem, a hybrid between angels and demons that would eventually give birth to humanity. If you’ve beat your share of Diablo 4 bosses and know the best Diablo 4 barbarian build to pick, read on to know more about this item and bug.

What is Death Harnessed: Theories of Rathma in Diablo 4?

Death Harnessed Theories of Rathma is a quest item in Diablo 4. It is obtained at the Horadric Vault near the Mistral Woods when you visit it with Neyrelle in Act 1. This happens during the Fledgling Scholar Quest, which is fairly straightforward. She’s looking for a Horadric book that will help you cross the Black Lake. Here’s a quest walkthrough for Fledgling Scholar in Diablo 4:

  • The quest tasks you with finding Death Harnessed Theories of Rathma. Once you enter the Horadric Vault, a spellbook in a room to the right will allow Neyrelle to break a charm in the next door.
  • Keep going via the left-hand corridor. Talking to Neyrelle will open the left door at the fork with two locked doors.
  • You’ll need to fight your way through a bunch of demons and skeletal warriors. Don’t worry, these skeletons and foes are scaled to your level.
  • Once you reach a healing well at the northern part of the map, head through the following path to the boss. Keep potions ready because this part of the quest will challenge you more than the hallways of the vault.
  • Tchort, Herald of Lilith, is the boss that protects Death Harnessed Theories of Rathma. They aren’t too tough but their ability to drain your health can prove problematic. Move away from the area when they attempt to drain you and keep landing attacks to take them down. Their projectile and melee attacks can be evaded without a sweat.
  • Defeat Tchort to get access to the necromantic runes of the Theories of Rathma book. Collect Death Harnessed Theories of Rathma in your inventory. Returning it to Neyrelle completes the main quest.

Death Harnessed Theories of Rathma bug in Diablo 4

Players have reported a glitch that causes the Holy Chalice as well as Death Harnessed: Theories of Rathma to appear at the Kyovashad fast travel point. I’ve personally spotted these items infinitely spawning at the gate of Kyovashad. Fortunately, this quest bug doesn’t tamper with the main questline and you can safely complete the game. But this stops some players from going beyond the 34/35 quests completed in the area. And since this is tied into Renown, this slows down player progression.

There is no current fix for this bug. Blizzard might deploy an update or fix in the near future. For now, stay tuned to Activision-Blizzard and their official channels like Twitter. With that out of the way, consider working your way through Diablo 4 Nightmare Dungeons and track down the Diablo 4 Silent Chests. Fans can fight a variety of demons and complete side-quests in the game on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
