Because Hideo Kojima’s latest open-world postman sim is so large in scope and ambition, it’s reasonable to expect a Death Stranding 2 point of no return. In other words, a part in the story, typically near the end, that locks you out of side content or the ability to freely roam the map.
With so much to do and see, including stacks of cameos, connection level rewards in both Australia and Mexico, and hundreds of Standard Orders to complete, it would be a shame to miss out. In this guide, we’ll walk you through whether Death Stranding 2 has a point of no return or not.
Is there a point of no return in Death Stranding 2?
No, Death Stranding 2 doesn’t have a point of no return in a traditional sense and you’re pretty much free to roam and explore as you see fit for the large majority of the game. There are, however, points in the game where you are prevented from visiting certain areas or from taking on other Orders, though this is clearly signposted and never lasts very long.
For example, after leaving Mexico, you can only return once you’ve made some headway into reconnecting Australia and unlock fast travel after Order 012. Similarly, there are story sections that transport you to temporary realms that need to be completed before you’re set loose. Again, these are all relatively short.
Lastly, the very end game does keep you on a relatively tight leash but its only temporary. Hitting the credits does signal the end of the story but you can keep playing afterwards, delivering cargo, completing orders, raising connection levels, and exploring both Mexico and Australia with no limitations and how, when, or where you can go. There’s no way to miss any side content, trophies, or secrets – they are available at all times even after completing the story. There’s even the option to tone down the difficulty post-story by removing the threat of Mechs and reducing the number of BTs that spawn on the map by turning on the Drawbridge Q-pid.
