The Profaned Capital is another small map area, but it’s confusing the first time you go through it, and sometimes there are monsters that have hands instead of faces. This guide will show you how to link the Profaned Capital area back to the Irithyll Dungeon, as well as where to find some key items (key can be read very literally in this case).

Profaned Capital bonfire

While it’s not technically true that there’s only one bonfire at the Profaned Capital, this is the only one before the boss fight. After you’ve run through the bottom of the Irithyll Dungeon as described in the guide for that area, you’ll come to the ruined tower that holds the bonfire.

Yhorm the Giant bonfire

Appears after you defeat Yhorm the Giant, the area boss and a Lord of Cinder.

Shortcuts at the Profaned Capital in Dark Souls 3

There kind of aren’t any. You just have to run about. But it’s a much less complex area than the dungeon, so it’s not so bad. But you can go around and make your way back to the bottom of the Irithyll Dungeon.

Start at the Profaned Capital bonfire and go back down the ladder behind you, so you’re standing inside the tower. There’s a broken wall on the outside edge that you can drop down from. Head left around the outside of the tower. At the point that a gargoyle jumps up to attack you should be able to see a ramp into a building on your right, so go on in there. There are a couple of crystal lizards in here, but also a couple of holes in the floor which will deposit you in a poisonous pond. To avoid them snake around the tunnel in a backwards S shape (left, right, right, left) and find yourself standing on a wooden platform opposite a church.

Drop down and head over to the church. There’s a ladder on the side you’re looking at, so go up it and around the roof until you get to the stairs. Follow those up and keep going. You’re now back at the giant’s cell in the Irithyll Dungeon, in a corridor at about knee level for him. There’s a broken wall back down the corridor where you can drop into the cell and take a lift back up to the Irithyll Dungeon. Or you can fight the giant. Either way.

Key Items at the Profaned Capital in Dark Souls 3

Undead Bone Shard

This is a freebie, possibly as a passive aggressive apology for having to huff your way through all of the Irithyll Dungeon. The bone shard is on the same platform as the Profaned Capital bonfire. Burn it at Firelink Shrine for a boost to your Estus Flask.

Logan’s Scroll

This is another scroll to give to Orbeck at Firelink Shrine. Go to the roof of the church described in the shortcut above. There’s an angry spellcaster on it who drops the scroll when you kill him.

Jailer’s Key Ring

This is what you need to open a few locked cells back up in the Irithyll Dungeon, including the one holding Karla, who deals in dark sorceries and pyromancies, and is at least honest about being shady and twisted, unlike basically everyone else you meet. To find it, follow the path described above to find your way back to the giant in the Irithyll Dungeon. Instead of dropping back down into his cell, go to the end of the corridor and you’ll find the Jailer’s Key Ring.

How to find Siegward of Catarina from the Profaned Capital

Helpfully, although Siegward is now trapped in a cell that is technically in the Irithyll Dungeon, you can only get to it from the Profaned Capital side. Go up onto the roof of the church (the one we just mentioned, in a pond full of insects and poison and so on) and stand so you’re facing outwards. Now look to your right. If you’ve followed these instructions correctly you should be looking at an open window you can jump through, so we hope you’re good at jumping. Once you’re through go straight round and unlock good ole Siegward’s cell – providing you picked up the key from the Irithyll Dungeon, which you should have because we told you exactly where to find it, have you not been paying attention? Honestly, we don’t know why we bother.

If you’ve done all Siegward’s encounters in the game up to now then he’ll join you in the boss fight against Yhorm the Giant, which makes the whole thing incredibly easy.

Finding Yhorm the Giant at the Profaned Capital in Dark Souls 3

The boss fight for this area is with a Lord of Cinder. To find his throne room start at the Profaned Capital bonfire and go down the ladder on the outside of the tower. You’ll be looking at a thin stone walkway with a gargoyle on it. When you step out there are some spellcasters who start throwing fireballs at you from below, on your right side, so keep an eye out and run along the walkway into the big building, then turn right, and go down the passage on your left to find the boss arena.
