Making progress through Dynasty mode in College Football 25 might seem it’s all about having the best players, but that’s only in the short term. Over time, you’re going to need to make sure that as your older players depart, you’ve got a steady stream of young talent ready to take their places, and making use of Redshirting is key to that.

Unfortunately, the Redshirt system in College Football 25 isn’t exactly a walk in the park to understand. That’s why we’ve put together a guide to explain how it works in the game so whether you want to let the game sort it out automatically or you’d prefer to do it yourself, you’ll have all the know-how.

How to Redshirt in Dynasty mode

Redshirting is when you designate a certain player as being unable to play for the rest of the season, letting you keep them without having to use up a roster spot for them. This is typically done for younger players when there isn’t a space in the team for them yet.

For example, if you have a senior player with solid stats already, and a younger player who isn’t quite at that level but still has room to grow, you can Redshirt the younger player. This will let you finish the season with the already-developed senior, while letting the younger player develop throughout the season, ready to take his place next season.

Sometimes, the game will Redshirt players for you, but if you want to Redshirt a player yourself, here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Head to the Team section in Dynasty mode
  2. Select the ‘Redshirts’ option
  3. Select the player you want to Redshirt (you can scroll through positions using LT/L2)
  4. When you have a player highlighted, press A/X on your controller to Redshirt them

As you can see in our screenshots above, we had a senior HB with an overall of 89 and a freshman with an overall of only 71, so could Redshirt the younger player to keep him in the squad and train him up so we have someone to take over when Mafah departs.
