Does Cities Skylines 2 have mods? The original Cities Skylines enjoyed some impressive mod support thanks to Steam Workshop support and the efforts of modders and fans. They gave the title some impressive legs, letting it stay fresh over the course of eight years and a bunch of expansions.

Check out whether Cities Skylines 2 is on Game Pass as we inch closer to the game’s launch. With the Cities Skylines 2 release date at hand, read on about Paradox Interactive’s complicated mod situation this time around. The game still impressed us and you can read more about our impressions in our Cities Skylines 2 review.

Does Cities Skylines 2 have mods?

Cities Skylines 2 will not have mods at launch. Colossal Order is moving to the Paradox Mods platform which will offer mods on both PCs and consoles after launch. An official Paradox blog post details how this platform works and what players can expect.

While it’s disappointing that a sequel won’t start with the predecessor’s excellent mod support, it’s not a death blow. Cities Skylines 2 includes a lot of quality-of-life features that were previously accessible only via mods. This makes it a great entry point for city builders or veteran players returning to the franchise. Seasons and the brand-new day-light cycle really make the city come alive. This deep simulation still has players dangling between dozens of factors as they painstakingly develop their cities from scratch. That still doesn’t mean that we’re hopeful for more mods.

Here are some mods we’d like to see in Cities Skylines 2:

  • An expansion of the mixed residential and commercial zone option in-game
  • More visual flair options over the European and North American options currently
  • Themes like Cyberpunk and borrowing IPs like Marvel or DC
  • Realistic population mods as the sequel hasn’t quite nailed this
  • Climate toggle to check out different weather conditions and natural disasters

The game launches this October on PC and consoles can expect a 2024 launch. Check out the Cities Skylines 2 system requirements to understand how much graphics grunt you’ll need. And here’s the best laptop for Cities Skylines 2 if you’re considering an upgrade.
