Larian Studios’ latest title has been garnering praise from critics and players alike for how its environment reacts to your actions. With that in mind, players are looking for even more ways to outwit the game’s puzzles. You’ve probably picked up plenty of rope in your adventures, but how to use it in Baldur’s Gate 3 may elude you. There’s a good reason for that, as we’ll explain in this guide.
Can you use rope in Baldur’s Gate 3?
You cannot use the rope to tie things in Baldur’s Gate 3. It would have been great to use a rope to access hidden areas, scale cliffs and walls, or bring items to you. Hog-tying mechanics to wrap up unconscious enemies aren’t present either. But as with any other item, rope can be used to trick traps, press buttons or levers, and close vents in the game. This can come in handy in puzzles like the one in the Dank Crypt. It can also be sold at any vendor across Faerun for a paltry amount during your Dungeons & Dragons adventure.

While it might not be worth the money, selling rope is better than letting it weigh your characters down. I found it odd because you can cut a rope to send a stone pillar crashing into the surface to create a new entrance near the Dank Crypt during BG3’s first Act. Sadly, that covers how to use rope in Baldur’s Gate 3. A single piece of gold in a role-playing game beats wasting inventory space. The rope has no utility purpose and can’t replace the Feather Fall or Fly spell. A vertical rope shot via a bow or crossbow would have been a good tool. But I guess the jump action will have to do.
