Gaining Favor of the Gods is a sure-fire way to get ahead in Age of Mythology Retold. Similar to the original game, Favor is used to invoke the power of the Gods and recruit Mythical units. But accumulating the resource can be confusing when you first start out, so we’ll explain how to get this all-important power source.
What to do to get Favor in Age of Mythology Retold
Every civilization in Age of Mythology Retold generates Favor in a different way. What works for one group of people doesn’t fit another’s playstyle. For example, if you’re used to getting Favor the Atlantean way, then choose to play as Norse, you’ll find that you won’t be generating any of it.
Unlike the original game, there is no Favor cap in Retold. However, God powers become progressively more expensive, the more you invoke them. The first usage comes free, but from the second onwards, you will have to pay a scaling cost. So let’s break down how each Civ gets Favor.
How to get Favor as Greeks
Greeks can generate Favor by assigning Villagers to play at the Temple. You can assign as many of them as you can fit around the structure, but each extra Villager brings diminishing returns after the first.
This makes the Greek method the safest and most passive, with the main cost coming from tying Villagers to Temples when they could gather resources instead. It’s also a very flexible method, letting you generate the resource at a pace that you can directly control.
How to get Favor as Atlanteans
Atlanteans generate Favor by building and maintaining Town Centers. That means that they are the only Civ that begins the game with a Favor-generating building from the start. Each additional Town Center you build will add to your resource generation.
This fits well with the Atlantean defensive and expansionist strategy. You are expected to spread over the map territory, so extra Town Centers naturally fit with this tactic. However, be wary that other civilizations don’t outpace your generation if you expand too timidly and thus get a lower Favor generation.
How to get Favor as Norse
Norse can generate Favor by fighting, as is expected from an aggressive Civ. Each Norse unit earns Favor by dealing damage to enemy units and buildings (except walls). However, Norse units have a Favor cap or bounty, which represents the maximum Favor it can generate over its lifetime.
Norse units also have a generation multiplier, making some more efficient than others. For example, Hersir are among the best land units to generate Favor, with Longboats doing the same at sea. Additionally, Hersir are the only Norse unit able to passively earn Favor out of combat after upgrading to Classical Age. That means that seeking out combat and playing aggressively is the main way for the Norse to get Favor from their Gods.
How to get Favor as Egyptians
Egyptians earn Favor by building Monuments to their Gods. There are a total of five Monuments you can build, each with a progressively higher generation rate. Only the first Monument doesn’t fit this progression pattern, providing a good earning rate from the start.
This means that Egyptians can generate Favor fairly passively, as long as their Monuments are protected from destruction. Additionally, if you summon the Pharaoh hero unit, you can empower Monuments to boost their earning rate. If you choose Ra in your pantheon, then Priest units can do the same.
