There are 35 different heroes in the team-based first-person shooter Overwatch 2, and each one brings their own unique abilities, weapons, and playstyles to the table. In addition, each hero belongs to one of three different roles that help to further define them in combat. These roles include tanks that can help shield their allies, supports that can heal them, and DPS that can deal damage to their foes. Choosing the right hero for the job can make or break a team, and knowing how to play them can make all the difference. Symmetra is a DPS hero in Overwatch 2 that utilizes her teleporter and turrets to get the jump on her enemies. Here is everything players need to know about using Symmetra in Overwatch 2.

Who is Symmetra in Overwatch 2?

Symmetra can help to support her team in Overwatch 2 by using some futuristic gadgets. These include a teleporter that can let her and her team teleport across distances quickly, as well as turrets to deal damage to her foes. In addition, she can even create a shield to protect her team from incoming fire. Picking Symmetra can allow players to defend narrow chokepoints and objectives to give her team the upper hand in Overwatch 2.

DPS heroes were reworked in Overwatch 2

While there were many different changes in Overwatch 2, one of the biggest was the change to team composition. In the original Overwatch, matches consisted of two teams of 6 players. For Overwatch 2, this was changed to be teams of 5 players. This means that each team now has one less tank on their side. Because of this, each role in the game received a passive ability to compensate. For DPS heroes such as Symmetra, the ability they received was a 25% increase in movement speed and reload speed on securing an elimination for a short duration. Though this ability does not stack, further eliminations will reset the timer for the ability.

Symmetra’s abilities in Overwatch 2

Symettra Weapons and Abilities

Overall, Symmetra will play very similar to how she did in Overwatch 2, although many of her abilities have been updated. Because of this, she is not able to poke enemies from range as much with her secondary fire, however, she does have more ammo to work with for her primary. In addition, her teleport and turrets were changed, which make her playstyle a little less forgiving. However, if she can find chokepoints or catch enemies off guard, she can use her turrets to make short work of her foes.

Photon Projector

Symmetra’s primary weapon is called the Photon Projector, and it received multiple adjustments for Overwatch 2. The Photon Projector is a short-range beam weapon that does increasing damage over time. The longer the beam is held on an enemy, the more damage they take. It increases from 60 to 120, to 180 per second the beam remains on target. In addition, Symmetra received a boost to her weapon’s magazine going from 70 to 100 for Overwatch 2.

The Photon Projector also has a secondary firing mode that can charge up for 1 second (down from 1.2 seconds) and fire an explosive energy ball that can deal up to 90 damage to a target (down from 120 in Overwatch 2). In addition, the secondary fire mode received a few changes, including an increase in projectile speed to 50 (from 25), a bigger projectile at .5 (up from .4) and costs more ammo per use at 10 (up from 7). These changes can make it easier for Symmetra to hit her target with a faster projectile, but reduce the overall damage to keep more in line with her close-range playstyle.

Sentry Turret

One of the key aspects of Symmetra’s kit is the ability to place Sentry Turrets. These turrets can be placed on walls, ceilings, or just about any hard surface in Overwatch 2. Up to 3 of them can be deployed at once. When the turrets encounter an enemy, they will fire a short-range beam at them that does 40 damage per second, as well as slows their movement speed by 15% (down from 20%). Though the Sentry Turrets did receive a slight nerf in movement speed reduction, their travel speed increased from 15 to 20, making them easier and quicker to place.

Sentry Turrets can be destroyed, and have a maximum of 30 HP. Sentry Turret has a cooldown of 10 seconds per charge and can store a maximum of 3 charges.

Teleporter

When Symmetra uses the Teleporter, she places a Teleporter exit pad at the location she is aiming, and the entrance at her current location. When used, she and her allies can travel through the teleporter to instantly reach a location. This can be great for quickly making a move during a push, or retreating when needed. Previously, Teleporter had an unlimited duration but was reduced to 10 seconds in Overwatch 2. In addition, the build time has been reduced from 2 seconds down to 1, and the Teleporter’s health has been reduced to 200 from 300 (50 shields and 150 HP). This makes her teleporter a much more active part of her kit, rather than a “set it and forget it” type of ability.

Photon Barrier

Symmetra’s Ultimate Ability is Photon Barrier. When used, this ability causes Symmetra to unleash a massive vertical shield that spans the entirety of the map. This barrier has 4000 HP and can block all incoming ranged attacks. In addition, it can be placed almost anywhere within a 25-meter range. The Photon Barrier lasts 12 seconds and can help Symmetra and her team secure a location when being pushed by an enemy team.

Tips for using Symmetra in Overwatch 2

Symmetra specializes in bringing her team some additional support through her use of her Teleporter and her Sentry Turrets. She is able to easily lock down chokepoints and help to hold them for her team. In addition, she can coordinate with her team to use her teleporter to get the jump on enemies, reach high ground, or make a quick escape. Her Photon Barrier can help her team survive and can make all the difference in a teamfight.

However, she lacks mobility besides her Teleporter, and her weapon has a very short range. Because of this, she can be picked off easily by any heroes with high mobility as well as those who can outrange her weapon. Still, she can bring a lot to her team, and with proper Sentry Turret Placement can help to secure some areas and hold them down by herself until backup arrives.

Pick Symmetra to build a victory in Overwatch 2

Symmetra is good at building her Sentry Turrets as well as her Teleporter to give her team the edge. While she is not the strongest hero, she remains a viable pick in any map that has narrow areas that she can defend with her team. Players who want to use her futuristic contraptions to win can choose her to build their team a victory in Overwatch 2.
