In Marvel Rivals, players are always testing their limits of skill and strategy, expertly honing their abilities with beloved heroes in this exhilarating 6v6 hero shooter. From the cosmic chaos of Star-Lord to the mystical might of Scarlet Witch, this game’s diverse roster presents players with a wealth of opportunities to refine their skills.
With the arrival of Season 1.5, the community is buzzing with fresh talent. Duelists, vanguards, and strategists are honing their skills, ready to take control of the multiverse like never before. Among the roster, one hero stands out from the pack — Spider-Man, the web-slinging icon whose impressive skill ceiling has enthralled players since the game’s debut.
Among the pack, a standout player called Necros has truly redefined mastery of Spidey, showcasing skills that elevate the game to new heights. This player has taken the competitive scene by storm, showcasing jaw-dropping combos and unmatched mobility, leading to growing acclaim as the top Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals. Here’s what we learned from his game and how Spidey should ideally be played in the game.
Here’s what we learned after spectating Necros play Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals
We spectated 3 hours worth of ranked play of Necros’ gameplay as Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals on his quest to Grandmaster I and here’s everything we learned about how he played the character and how the iconic webslinger is meant to be used.
1) Master the Art of Web-Swinging
Spider-Man’s defining trait is undoubtedly his swing. Elite players such as Necros leverage this mechanic not only for movement but also as a tactical weapon—linking swings into bunny hops (jump-canceling swings for quick bursts of speed) to outsmart foes, ascend to elevated positions, or evade threats. This element adds an intriguing layer of unpredictability, making him a challenging character to fully grasp.
2) Adjust Your Settings
Necros prefers to turn off “Automatic Swing” found in the settings menu (under Hero-specific options) to gain better control over their swing direction. This adjustment eliminates unpredictable grappling points, enabling deliberate repositioning and mid-air combos, which significantly enhances his agility.
3) Focus on 1v1 Selections
In the role of a glass-cannon Duelist, Spider-Man truly shines when it comes to picking off isolated targets with precision. Necros appears to target isolated Strategists or weakened Duelists, employing Web-Cluster to mark a Spider-Tracer, then swiftly closing the gap with Get Over Here! for a rapid damage output—ensuring kills before reinforcements can intervene.
4) Mastering Chain Combos
One of the standout moves in Spider-Man’s arsenal is the Web-Cluster, which applies a Tracer, followed by Get Over Here! to bridge the gap, and culminates in the Amazing Combo, a flurry of melee attacks topped off with a powerful uppercut. Necros likely employs animation-cancelling techniques—such as swinging immediately after an uppercut—to keep the momentum going and pursue escaping foes.
5) Time the Ultimate Smartly
Spectacular Spin, Spider-Man’s area-of-effect webbing ultimate, stuns enemies marked by Tracer. Necros appears to bide his time, patiently observing enemy Strategists as they expend their defensive ultimates, such as Mantis’ healing ability. This tactical approach allows him to unleash his power in team fights, amplifying chaos and increasing the chances of securing kills.
6) Embrace the wall-crawler
One feature that’s highly overlooked by players is Spidey’s wall-crawling abilities which Necros fully embraces. They often climb walls and hide in spots, waiting for enemy backline to be in their aiming area, before they jump in the battle and start picking off enemies one by one.
7) Exploit map edges
There are whispers that Necros will utilize Spider-Man’s Get Over Here! to drag foes off ledges, setting the stage for some thrilling environmental takedowns. This daring strategy shines on expansive maps such as Yggsgard, allowing players to catch their foes by surprise. However, it’s wise to avoid leaning too heavily on it to maintain adaptability.
8) Don’t overlook the Practice Range
Before Necros jumps into a ranked Marvel Rivals match, they always make sure to jump into the Practice Range to warm up their game and skill. It’s always good to practice your aim and your movement skill set before you head into a heated high-rank game so you’re not missing any shots and survive longer. By practicing you can correct some of your flaws or even learn a new way to move, and as Spider-Man, you’ll always need to be on the move and highly accurate with your shots so it’s best to often practice before heading into battle.
