My name is Matt Armstrong and I’m the Design Director for PROTOTYPE 2 at Radical Entertainment. My role at the studio is to provide all of the creative direction for the game and ensure that it’s all delivered to the best possible quality. From story and missions to characters and core gameplay, my job is to ensure that everything is comes together in a way that is delivers the best possible experience for the player. Today I’m going to give you all the information on the RADNET Edition of the game.
What is the RADNET Edition of PROTOTYPE 2?
Our RADNET Edition content is basically a neat umbrella term for seven weeks of free DLC that follows the initial launch of PROTOTYPE 2. What’s really exciting about this DLC is that it’s structured as unique packages of challenges and events which, when successfully completed, provide the player with real rewards in the form of new in-game Mutations, behind-the-scenes developer diaries, and even a playable Alex Mercer skin as the grand reward from completing all the RADNET events and challenges.
How does RADNET Edition content differ to normal DLC?
RADNET Edition content is really the “pure fun” open-world content outside PROTOTYPE 2’s main story. There is a huge amount of really cool things that you can do in the game that don’t always fit with the serious tone of the main story, and RADNET is our way of making sure that players can get their hands on this out-of-fiction gameplay. It’s our chance to wink to the fans, break the fourth wall and say “Yes, Sgt. James Heller is pretty serious, serious guy, but watch this!”.
What are some examples of the content that will be delivered through RADNET Edition content?
There are two key elements to RADNET gameplay – Challenges and Events:
Challenges are online-enabled stat-based competitions that pit you against your Xbox Live or PSN friends. Examples of Challenges are “Gravity Defier” which pushes the player to spend the longest time possible in the air, or “Pedestrian Shotputter” which monitors how far the player can throw an enemy. These Challenges are “live”, so the game is always watching and updating your scores no matter what you’re doing in the world.
Events are standalone action games that have Heller doing things such as racing military helicopters along weaving paths through the virus-infested city or using Hammer Fist dives to take out successively more difficult formations of Blackwatch troops in fewest number of attempts.
