Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to release sometime in 2024, but it’s release date is still not set in stone. Despite targeting 2024, Konami has yet to reveal when players can get their hands on the game, although the studio has been keen to reveal special Collector’s Editions available for pre-order.

In recent months, MGS Delta producer Noriaki Okamura has even apologised to fans for being so secretive with the game’s release date. Now that 2024 is nearing its end, we still don’t know when the game is actually releasing, and it’s missed its perfect release date.

Metal Gear Solid Delta is late for a very important date

As a full-on remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Delta could have launched, or at least had its release date revealed, on the game’s recent anniversary. On November 17, 2024, its original officially turned 20 years old, marking two decades of fan adoration for the Hideo Kojima PS2 classic.

As expected from modern Konami, not only was there no announcement for Delta, but there was barely a whimper from the studio. However, there was an update to the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection just days earlier, bringing a bunch of much-needed fixes to the compilation release.

This isn’t to say that Konami is mishandling the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 with the creation of Delta. While it’s not the Resident Evil 2-style remake that many fans might’ve wanted, it does look like a great modernisation while keeping old elements like gated loading areas and the original voice acting.

However, it is not only unusual, but downright weird that no news of the Snake Eater remake would be revealed on the anniversary of its original counterpart. In fact, Konami didn’t even acknowledge the game’s anniversary on its official social media channels, although one person did: Hideo Kojima

“It’s been 20 years,” the game director simply put on his infamous Twitter account. It may be short, it may be sweet, but it’s something.

20 years on, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is still one of the greatest stealth games ever made, and Delta looks like a great way for fans to experience, or re-experience, that. However, it would help if Konami would actually reveal when gamers can actually play it.
