Welcome to Heads-up, our weekly feature which gives you an at-a-glance run-down on the games you’ll be able to buy or rent this weekend. Every Monday we’ll pick out the best of the bunch, link to our reviews and previews and keep you in the video game loop so you have enough time to pre-order for Friday’s post. Time to smash open your piggy bank so you can spend its coin-shaped guts.

It’s a strong week for new releases, but our picks are from a completely different era. The Ratchet and Clank Trilogy and the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection both started life on the PlayStation 2. While the Ratchet trilogy benefits greatly from its HD spruce up, the Metal Gear pack on Vita is a bit cheeky stating it’s HD at all – given its less than HD resolution and a lower frame rate than the PS2 originals. Still, both collections include some of the best games from the previous generation.

Worth a look

It’s time to play the “It might be good but we’re not really sure” game. Contestants this week are The Amazing Spider-Man, Spec Ops The Line and London 2012. While the first two could genuinely be good games, we haven’t played the final builds yet so can’t say for sure. And the official Olympics game should be good for some multiplayer laughs unless the whole thing is a cash-in without any redeeming features. We’re hoping for the former.

And the rest…
