December means Fortnite is about to celebrate Christmas with its inevitable gift-giving event and more seasonal content. In previous years, Epic Games allowed players to gift skins and cosmetics to mark the holidays with Winterfest. It’s been a reliable way to attract new players while rewarding existing players as the year winds up.

However, with the number of seasons showcasing crossovers with franchises such as Star Wars to The Simpsons, there’s an opportunity for Epic Games to improve how it celebrates the holidays with several crossovers. Players could be swayed to purchase holiday cosmetics, but with a twist. Here a five ways Fortnite could do Christmas crossovers to mark the season.

Santa Claus Homer as support

The Simpsons x Fortnite mini-season in November was one of Fortnite’s biggest successes. With almost 3 million players throughout the month, a 400,000-player increase from October, players already fondly remember this collaboration. With Chapter 7 in full swing, there’s an opportunity for Homer Simpson to make a comeback later this month.

The very first episode of The Simpsons, 1989’s ‘Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire’, featured Homer dressed up as Santa Claus to make some extra cash for the holidays and adopting Santa’s Little Helper. It would be great for Homer to appear in Fortnite as Santa – whether that’s as a purchasable skin, or as a character support for matches.

The Grinch as a boss

On the other side of the spectrum, the Simpsons x Fortnite collab showed off how well cel-shaded graphics work. The Grinch could take advantage of this. Debuting in 1957 in the Dr. Seuss children’s book, ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’, this human-shaped green monster has a huge disdain for Christmas, for unknown reasons.

Having gained prominence among a modern audience thanks to actor Jim Carrey’s portrayal in the 2000 movie, a short Fortnite collaboration could be a perfect fit. Players could steal items inspired by Christmas from the Grinch during a match, or the Grinch could be a boss in a new section of the Hollywood-inspired map in Chapter 7. Dialogue voiced by Carrey would only sweeten up the experience.

Mariah Carey in Fortnite Festival

When you think of Mariah Carey, you’ll most likely think of her 1994 hit, ‘All I Want for Christmas’. The song has become synonymous with the holiday season, with the singer herself getting into the spirit of the song on social media in recent years. But when it comes to Fortnite, there could be an obvious crossover that could benefit both the singer and Epic Games.

Fortnite Festival is a mode where players can press a series of buttons to a bunch of songs, much like the Rock Band series from the late 2000s. This is where Carey and her hit song could be a runaway hit. Perhaps the song could also be purchased, so it can be played while the menus are being browsed. It seems like an obvious, sure-fire hit, and one that could easily go viral with younger players.

Stranger Things at Golden Reel

With the final season of Netflix’s smash-hit series Stranger Things currently airing, as well as related cosmetics available in Fortnite, it seems like the next natural step is to celebrate the series in Fortnite with a Christmas theme. Chapter 7 Season 1 has already aired a lost chapter of the Kill Bill series at Golden Reel, a theatre found in Battlewood.

Players could buy skins based on the characters from the series, but all in Christmas attire, and visit the Golden Reel to watch preview clips of upcoming episodes. With no word of anything new coming from the Stranger Things universe after the last episode on New Year’s Eve, it seems like a slam-dunk for both Epic Games and Netflix to leverage the finale.

Star Wars Hoth location

Including Star Wars in Fortnite to mark Christmas might be a predictable choice at this point, given the franchise’s numerous appearances since its 2019 debut, coinciding with the release of The Rise of Skywalker movie. Players have wielded lightsabers, used force powers, and equipped character skins from the franchise, but a Christmas crossover could work well.

Hoth, a planet first featured in the 1980s movie The Empire Strikes Back, could be a fantastic temporary addition to Chapter 7’s newest map. Christmas decorations scattered around the Rebel base, huge ATAT walkers, big Wampa monsters, and more in this section could be a great way to celebrate a Christmas crossover.
