No one on Earth is worse than me at neglecting the goalkeeper position in Football Manager. I’ve spent years cheaping out on keepers, pouring my budget into nabbing the best strikers or midfielders, and convincing myself that goalkeepers don’t really matter. Why bother, right? Well, I’ve finally had to eat humble pie.
Football is a game of fine margins, and a top-tier goalkeeper can make all the difference—turning a loss into a draw or a draw into a win. At the very least, having a reliable goalie spares you the agony of wondering if that gut-wrenching loss might’ve gone differently if your keeper could stop a ball.
So, I’m officially on the hunt for my next Dominik Livaković or Predrag Rajković—the kind of goalie you plug into your starting XI and forget about for a decade. Here are my top picks for the best wonderkid goalkeepers in FM24:
Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro
You'll get hints, tips, new challenges and all the latest news as we gear up for the next game.⚽🏆
Club: Somewhere in the Eredivisie (not Ajax).
Price: Cheap as chips.
Why Buy: A well-rounded keeper with bags of potential who won’t break the bank. Plus, his name is an absolute banger—though good luck fitting it on the back of your shirt without taking out a loan.
Bart Verbruggen
Club: Brighton.
Price: Premier League premium.
Why Buy: Brighton’s recruitment team is basically the gaming equivalent of cheat codes. If they’ve signed him, you know he’s class. He’s not as cheap as others, but if you’re a top-six club looking for a young, dependable goalie, Verbruggen is your guy.
Mycael
Club: Somewhere in South America.
Price: Around £5m.
Why Buy: Every wonderkid list needs a South American gem, and Mycael is that guy. For the price of a couple of Premier League squad players, you could snag the next Ederson or Alisson. A no-brainer.
Dennis Seimen
Club: Stuttgart.
Price: Less than £1m.
Why Buy: With attributes eerily similar to David Seaman and determination through the roof, Seimen is destined for greatness. Snag him for peanuts and lock in your goalkeeping future for the next decade.
Diego Callai
Club: Sporting CP.
Price: Reasonable for his potential.
Why Buy: Callai starts at 18 but, by 28, transforms into an absolute monster. At 6’4″, with excellent aerial reach and reflexes, he’s a box-commanding beast. If you want reliability and all-around brilliance, Diego’s your guy.
Guillaume Restes
Club: Toulouse.
Price: Affordable.
Why Buy: Guillaume means “William” in French, so obviously I had to include him—it’s fate. But name aside, he’s a brilliant prospect with high determination and the physical traits perfect for a modern sweeper-keeper. Whether you’re running a gegenpress or vertical tiki-taka, Restes fits right in.
Jonas Urbig
Club: Germany (somewhere, because of course).
Price: Affordable for most Premier League clubs.
Why Buy: Germany churns out wonderkid goalkeepers like it’s their national pastime. Following in the footsteps of Neuer and Kahn, Urbig combines shot-stopping brilliance with the technical skills needed for a sweeper-keeper role. He’s a bit eccentric, which might add some drama—but hey, who doesn’t love a little chaos?
So, there you have it: my top goalkeeper wonderkids in FM24. Who’s your go-to keeper? Have I missed anyone? Let me know—I might just add them to my shortlist.
