The console war is fought everywhere these days, but the internet seems to be where people are most vocal. It also serves to give each console its own set of downloadable content, fuelling the war even more. Each week we'll give you a run-down of what's available to download on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, and declare a winner.

Note: This round-up is based on UK releases to each console's online service. Releases outside of the UK could vary.

PlayStation 3 - PSN

With the revamped store now up and running PS3 gamers have their first content update for several weeks, and it's non-too-shabby either. There's a free dragon pack and title update for Lair, meaning you can now enjoy analogue controls. Also available is the highly anticipated Warhawk expansion, Broken Mirror, and the very exciting Metal Gear Online Beta.

The only disappointment is that the MGO Beta won't actually begin until April 21, but you can make sure you're ready to go by downloading the game files from the PS Store now.

Xbox 360 - Marketplace

It's another packed week for Xbox 360 gamers, with three new game add-ons, two new XBLA releases, a playable demo and a bunch of other stuff. The pick of the week has to be the new maps for Halo 3, but there's also a massive expansion for Samurai Warriors 2 (reflected in the high price) and free multiplayer maps for Kane & Lynch.

The new XBLA titles aren't the best, but younger gamers should find some entertainment in the Rocky & Bullwinkle title, especially thanks to its LIVE Vision camera support.

If you've got no MS Points then you can always make do with playable demos of SEGA's Universe at War and Condemned 2.

Wii Virtual Console

Available this week is Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom, the third and widely agreed worst entry in the four-game series. It's a traditional role-playing title, released on the SEGA Mega Drive back in 1991, and sees players taking on the role of Rhys, the Crown Prince of the kingdom of Landen. His bride is kidnapped on their wedding day and Rhys sets off on a quest to regain his lost love.

And the winner of this week's DLC Royal Rumble is...

Xbox 360 - Marketplace

There's no question that the new PS Store is a vast improvement to what was available before, but the new content available on its return can't match what's available this week for Xbox 360 owners. With the Metal Gear Online beta beginning next week there'll have to be something very special available on XBL Marketplace to compete come next Friday's round-up, but for now it's the Xbox 360 and Marketplace which comes out on top. The less said about the Wii Virtual Console the better.
