The hype for Call of Duty Black Ops 6 continues to grow following a series of quickfire snippets from Activision. But despite the growing excitement, some are warily hoping that the upcoming series installment doesn’t take a page out of the Modern Warfare 3 mission design book.

On Reddit, some fans still haven’t forgotten the disaster that was MW3’s Open Combat missions. For those unfamiliar, Open Combat missions allowed players to tackle objectives differently, theoretically providing each one with plenty of replayability and novelty. Unfortunately, players didn’t have enough incentive to complete, let alone play through these missions repeatedly, since most were repetitive and similar to Warzone’s own objectives.

Unfortunately, according to an Insider Gaming article, it seems Activision and Treyarch may be planning on bringing back OCMs with future series entries. This has prompted some players on the Black Ops 6 Reddit to plead with the developers to leave this game mode in MW3 after bluntly labeling it “garbage.”

Of course, some fans pointed out that Modern Warfare 3 had a much shorter development cycle than most CoD games (less than two years) – a time crunch that may have forced Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software to reuse assets for these missions. But since Black Ops 6 developers have had more time to polish the game, the upcoming OCMs may end up being better than their predecessors.

Of course, this is all still mere speculation since Activision and Treyarch have yet to confirm whether they’ll be adding OCMs to the next game. Hopefully, more will be revealed during the Black Ops 6 gameplay trailer on June 9th. But until then, check out the official Black Ops 6 artwork and teasers so you can stay up to date with the latest developments.
