The launch of Resident Evil Requiem is only a month away. After getting hands-on time with the game for a preview, we can confidently say it is shaping up to be an early Game of the Year contender. Resident Evil Requiem will be fantastic to play on a base PS5, but it will be even better on a PS5 Pro thanks to enhancements that include the ability to play at up to 120fps.
In an interview with the Japanese PlayStation Blog, Resident Evil Requiem director Kōshi Nakanishi revealed that PS5 Pro players can enjoy 4K output at 60fps with full ray tracing. Meanwhile, if ray tracing is turned off and you have a TV or monitor that supports high frame rates, you can “play at up to 120 fps, with an average of 90 fps”.
Full ray tracing will display Resident Evil Requiem at its best with photorealistic graphics, detailed lighting, and realistic reflections, while higher frame rates will provide a smoother gameplay experience. Gushing about the PS5 Pro’s ability to support high frame rates, Nakanishi admitted that “when you go back to 60fps, it feels a bit lacking”.
While 120fps is impressive, a NVIDIA DLSS 4 trailer has showcased gameplay running at 197fps and even exceeding 300fps. This is a luxury afforded to PC players only, but Requiem will still feel exceptionally smooth on the PS5 Pro.
Beyond PS5 Pro enhancements, Nakanishi also confirmed haptic feedback support for the PS5 Pro. This includes adaptive triggers, where the resistance of pressing R2 to shoot will vary depending on the weapon. Haptic feedback will also convey the sensation of being bitten by a zombie.
Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February 27. Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft serve as the two playable protagonists, blending the gameplay of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.
Nakanishi has teased the return of additional characters beyond Leon and, as part of a wider interview campaign, he has also expressed interest in the relationship between Leon and Ada Wong, raising hopes that the Chinese-American spy may make a return.
