Arrowhead CCO and Helldivers 2 creative director, Johan Pilestedt, answered questions from fans in the latest Democratic Conversation video. In addition to discussing sequel-defining features that Arrowhead wants to introduce, such as eight-player missions and larger open-world landscapes, Pilestedt reveals that the developer wants to increase the level cap.
Asked whether there are plans to increase the level cap, Pilestedt responds, “Yes, absolutely”. However, while increasing the level cap is part of the developer’s plans, Pilestedt doesn’t know when it will happen because “it’s one of those things that’s constantly slipping outside of the things that we want to get done for the next update”.
The current level cap for Helldivers 2 is 150 following the release of update 1.000.200 in April 2024, which is a massive improvement over the original level cap of 50. However, back in April this year, leaks suggest Arrowhead is planning to increase the level cap to 200.
You increase levels in Helldivers 2 by earning XP through completing missions, with larger amounts of XP rewarded for finishing faster and for completing on greater difficulties such as Super Helldive. According to the leak, you would need to acquire 2,836,829 XP to reach level 200.
While Arrowhead officially wants to increase the level cap, remember that an upgrade of 200 and the required XP is a leak rather than anything confirmed. Arrowhead has also discussed plans to expand vehicular gameplay while introducing more vehicles from the first game, and Pilestedt has shared that the developer has a prototype for a rogue-lite mode that fundamentally changes the Helldivers 2 experience.
Arrowhead hasn’t shared any plans for 2026, but before the new year arrives, you still have until December 31 to enjoy the Festival of Reckoning, Arrowhead’s annual winter in-game event.
