One of the worst-kept secrets in the history of gaming has been the return of Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil Requiem. A PlayStation Store blunder sadly spoiled Capcom’s announcement for The Game Awards, but it is now official that Leon is returning, and he is indeed a playable character alongside new Resident Evil protagonist, Grace Ashcroft.

There have been rumors of Leon as a second playable character since the game’s announcement at Summer Game Fest. Leon Kennedy is a fan-favorite hero of the Resident Evil franchise who made his debut in 1998’s Resident Evil 2.

In Resident Evil 2, Leon was a rookie cop, but upon his return in Resident Evil 4 in 2005, he had transformed into a badass action hero entrusted to save the President’s daughter. The last we saw of Leon in the series’ timeline was Resident Evil 6 in 2012.

Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to release on February 27, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Besides Leon, it stars newcomer Grace Ashcroft, who is an FBI analyst series veterans may recognize as the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, a playable character in Resident Evil Outbreak from 2003. It features first-person gameplay for newer fans, as well as the option of third-person for fans before Resident Evil 7.

Stalkers are nothing new to Resident Evil, as the series is famous for monsters who relentlessly chase down heroes such as Mr. X in Resident Evil 2 and Nemesis in Resident Evil 3. There is another monster in Requiem that is reportedly more dynamic, like the Xenomorph in Alien Isolation, and, while this monster is yet to be named,  Capcom has debunked theories that it’s Lisa Trevor from the Resident Evil 2002 Remake, later killed in 2007’s Umbrella Chronicles.
