Varied system specs to blame for no Fracture on PC

Game engine so demanding that only the top end PCs could run the game.

On the back of LucasArts deciding to develop Star Wars: The Force Unleashed only for consoles and not the PC, we caught up with Fracture's assistant producer Jeffrey Gullett to find out if the company's other big action game for 2008 had a chance of a PC release. It seems not.

"We looked at the PC, but there were a few different issues when it came to PC, like the game is actually incredibly demanding for processing power and graphic power, so we really sort of require pretty much top of the line PCs to run it at the performance we would require it," said Gullett.

"So then it just kind of came down to like, is it really viable to do it? If it requires that high end of a machine, does it really make sense to do it or not? So we sort of decided against that and went for 360 and PS3."

So, it's another win for console owners. Perhaps when base level PCs have caught up we might see Fracture on the PC, but for now it's a console exclusive.

My xbox can't play games like Far Cry 2, Left4Dead, Mercenaries 2 they all played better on my pc and it is a budget computer

Only top of the line PCs? I'm raising the BS flag here. Xbox 360 is the equivalent of a mid range PC, My LAPTOP blows it out of the water. Good luck morons, I've only liked 1 game with the Lucas Arts name on it anyway. Have fun with the console kiddies.

Lucas arts have pretty much turn their backs on pc gamers. For the force unleashed there has been over 3 000 posts on their fourms. There is alot of hate over the with lucas arts too. Pc gamers made lucas art what they are today. However if fracture was to come to pc it wouldn't be a great game.

As for people not having the computers to run them is competely false.

Even if lucas arts don't make this game for the pc. Pc gamer will just use eulators to play the game any way. They have done that with all the console ever made.

what a laugh!! my pc has a quad core cpu clocked at 4GHz and a graphics chip with the combined power of ov every graphics processor in every console made up to today. the xbox 360 has a triple core 3.2GHz cpu and a graphics chip conciderable less powerfull and can only do DX9 compared to pcs with DX10/10.1. i love my xbox 360, but pcs are just years ahead in technology

Yeah, heck, a good graphics card is only $400 (Nvidia Geforce 9800 GX2) that can run practically anything. I don't see why they don't put it on steam. They don't lose money from shipping or manufacturing discs and stuff.

To add additionaly information about World In Conflict that Random mentioned. It is coming to the 360 and PS3 with DOWNGRADED graphics. Yep that's right according to Lucasarts PC's can't run console games, yet according to nearly every other developer it's the consoles that can't run PC games without the graphics being downgraded.

umm is this like a joke or something? the most bogus reason for not coming to PC LOL, mainstream PC's are much more powerfull than the consoles now. What a joke and the game doesn't even look that good LOL. to rest my case....LOOK AT WORLD IN CONFLICT, it runs fine on mid PC's and you can destroy everything u see

I find it truly baffling how other developers are "finding" a way to get these so called "next gen" games running on a PC decently. I mean bioware managed to some how make Mass Effect for the PC with BETTER graphics and faster framerate. My £500 pc can play Mass Effect at 1680 x 1050, 4 x AA all settings Max and I get about 30 - 40fps. So someone is talking a lot of bull here and it isn't me.

Naturally it is all about the big sell at the end of the day they want to push the console version so they go "oh no the PC can't handle this", Then miraculously a few months later it will be "oh yeah we are doing a PC version". I can't say I am that hyped about Fracture, infact this is the first I have heard of it. I have heard enough to know I should stay away from Lucasarts stuff in future and that is what I will do. So as far as I am concerned they can go console only since they pretty much are already. I just wish they would stop pretending to be interested in the PC.

Mid-Range PCs are at the level of current consoles. High-end PCs are already surpassing it. I think game devs need to clarify that it isn't the fact that PCs aren't powerful enough, it's the fact that the market is flooded with crappy computers from Dell, Gateway, HP and the likes. And with the intelligence of the average computer user going down, well PC gaming as we see it is going downhill.

You have it right demonsvk. But they stated that they wont release it on pc's because it can only be run to its potential on a high end pc. In this day and age, the average pc that people have would struggle to play newer pc titles on the lowest settings. It makes more sense to release this for the consoles.

This is hillarious. Performance of "next-gen" consoles is pretty pathetic when compared to PCs with high-end HW. Incompatibility is much better explanation ... that's real fact.
