PSN accounts exceed 20 million

Home users have exceeded four million.

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that the cumulative number of registered accounts on PlayStation Network has exceeded 20 million as of February 20, 2009.

The PlayStation Network launched on November 11, 2006 and reached five million registered users in one year and two months, 10 million in one year and ten months and exceeded 20 million in two years and three months.

PSN is a free service for the PS3 and PSP and is also accessible on a PC. Users in over 55 countries are currently able to access the service.

SCE also announced that PlayStation Home, which launched in December 2008, has seen its users expand to over four million in less than two months.

I'm one of the 20 million with a PSN account, grabbed it early so I could reserve my online handle. I don't have a PS3 or PSP though, but seeing as Wiki reports 21.3 million PS3s sold as of December 2008 the 20 million figure seems a little low or Wiki's figure seems a little high.

Microsoft's figures are equally baffling - 29m consoles sold but only 17 million Gold/Silver subscribers, that would indicate either roughly 41% of XBox 360 owners never hook their 360 up to the internet or there's another reason I'm missing for the small number of accounts compared to consoles sold.

I have a UK,USA and Jap accounts just for downloading from the different PSN store's
I have a 4th one that I use just to play games

and the Mrs has one but never uses it.

360 i have 1 gold which is mine and 2 silvers one for the wife one for my boys to share.

Actually Doc1985 i'm hapily living with partner. And this is not about whether PS3 is better than 360 or Vice Versa. It's about pointless stats that Sony inparticular release in order to make their console seem to be doing far better than it actually is. You don't see nintendo using such rubbish tactics or belittling their competition at every given opportunity. CrustyJockStrap basically proves a point to me that he has 5 accounts each of which contributes to a number. This is by no means active accounts. As I can presume as Jock Strap is a serious gamer has one profile for his own gaming and the others are for faffing about. With Sony Legacy accounts or those that are not used are still counted in their figures. Hell I have a sony account and have never ever logged onto a PS3 or PSP. So i am included in these figures.

When MS report their stats they will always state active users. I am not wrong I am right. I hate Sony Fanboys having pops at me for stating the truth. I hate how Sony use propaganda to try and make their console seem amazing. Look at all our online users. Where as currently there are around 9 Million active PS3 users.

no you are wrong. these include psp users as well so ps3 + psp= over 40 million. Moreover, these include pc some users as well.

If there exceeded 20 million users = 20 million + consoles sold. Its really hard as the PS3 sold about 19 million + coming to 20 million when they come to the conclusion of how many units they have sold altogether.

Seriously I come on here and like to read articles and I get you!!! Slating the PS3 right and centre, its clear you don't like it so why even bother posting in them? Shows your a fanboy and don't say you don't as there has been other users saying to you. Stop being a jackass and just accept that your a complete idiot who needs to go back and sit in the corner and play whatever you play. Saddo.

Karlius, your a mong there blatently would be a more accounts than consoles, its the exact same thing for xbox, people who decide they cant be arsed with paying for the golg membership and create new accounts every month or so...so xbox probably have more accounts than consoles...PS3 owners dont have to pay for playing games online...so you go figure it out...moron
