With no True Ending yet, the Hades 2 Early Access build is understandably unfinished. Nobody should have any complaints about that in the slightest, especially considering that it’s also one of the most polished, playable, and immersive early builds of a game ever released. What’s interesting though is that in a recent interview with Game Informer, Supergiant’s dev team illuminated the current state of the ending, alongside the existing content in-game.

In the interview, the Supergiant developers were asked if they’ve written the ending yet. Greg Kasavin, Creative Director, laid out the following, “we have our outline for where the story is going, have we written the ending? No.” Kasavin also mentioned that they don’t yet know how many runs will be needed to unlock the true ending because that also hasn’t been written yet.

For reference, in the original Hades title, you had to complete at least 10 runs to unlock the true ending. In case you haven’t played it yet, we won’t spoil it. But, it is damn good.

“There are things that happen when you reach the end of the current content,” Greg continues, before Amir Rao, the Studio Director, chimed in: “Some of that stuff you only experience because it’s the farewell for now sort of ending that only exists in Early Access.”

This is one of the most interesting lines from the interview, and while it’s not entirely unexpected for an Early Access build to feature placeholder content–in-fact we’ve seen plenty of stand-in character art so far–but more in the sense that we could be enduring an entirely different plight against Chronos when the full game drops.

Speaking of, Kasavin also mentioned that we will be playing the Early Access build for Hades 2 until at least the end of the year, though it’s “hard to say” when exactly.

This all followed on from another question about new areas in-game, of which you will find out that there are plenty that haven’t even been implemented yet. Just like the unwritten Hades 2 endings, we could be seeing entirely new areas unlocked with the game’s full release.

I’ll be honest, this is all good news. When the Early Access for Hades 2 dropped, and I’d found out that we wouldn’t be enjoying the full game for quite a few months, I worried that the completeness of the game would – ironically – render the final game obsolete. It’s quite clear that that’s not going to be the case at all, and we’re going to see so much change, overhaul, and re-direction before the 1.0 release.

The interview also mentioned that the voice cast for Hades 2 is incomplete, with more actors soon to pledge themselves to Hades. One of them, coincidentally, confirmed their inclusion in the game this morning, and you can find out who exactly they play. Spoiler alert, they’re from Netflix’s Sex Education.
